Rituals are also common in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). In contrast to OCD, the proposed associations between rituals and intrusive thoughts/appearance preoccupation have not been empirically investigated for BDD. We examined if the assumed effect of gazing rituals on attractiveness ratings exists and if it is associated with dissociation. In an experiment, we asked N = 65 non-clinical females to focus on the nose of a photographed face at pre- and post-test. In between, participants gazed at the nose of either the same (relevant gazing) or another face (irrelevant gazing). We found increasing dissociation after gazing in both conditions and a differentially stronger decrease of attractiveness ratings in the relevant gazing condition. Our findings support the hypothesized effect of gazing rituals on attractiveness evaluation in cognitive-behavioral models for BDD.}, language = {en} } @article{MoellmannHungerSchulzetal.2020, author = {M{\"o}llmann, Anne and Hunger, Antje and Schulz, Claudia and Wilhelm, Sabine and Buhlmann, Ulrike}, title = {Gazing rituals in body dysmorphic disorder}, series = {Journal of behavior therapy and experimental psychiatry}, volume = {68}, journal = {Journal of behavior therapy and experimental psychiatry}, publisher = {Elsevier}, doi = {10.1016/j.jbtep.2019.101522}, pages = {101522}, year = {2020}, language = {en} } @article{MehrmannGerlachHunger2017, author = {Mehrmann, Linda M. and Gerlach, Alexander L. and Hunger, Antje}, title = {Dermatillomanie (Skin-Picking-St{\"o}rung): Diagnostik, Erkl{\"a}rung und Behandlung}, series = {Aktuelle Dermatologie}, volume = {43}, journal = {Aktuelle Dermatologie}, number = {11}, publisher = {Thieme}, organization = {Thieme}, doi = {10.1055/s-0043-120953}, pages = {477 -- 491}, year = {2017}, language = {de} } @article{MoellmannDietelHungeretal.2017, author = {Moellmann, Anne and Dietel, Fanny A. and Hunger, Antje and Buhlmann, Ulrike}, title = {Prevalence of body dysmorphic disorder and associated features in German adolescents: A self-report survey}, series = {Psychiatry Research}, volume = {254}, journal = {Psychiatry Research}, issn = {0165-1781}, doi = {10.1016/j.psychres.2017.04.063}, pages = {263 -- 267}, year = {2017}, language = {en} } @article{MehrmannHungerGerlach2017, author = {Mehrmann, Linda M. and Hunger, Antje and Gerlach, Alexander L.}, title = {Pathologisches Hautzupfen/-quetschen (Skin Picking)}, series = {Zeitschrift f{\"u}r Klinische Psychologie und Psychotherapie}, volume = {46}, journal = {Zeitschrift f{\"u}r Klinische Psychologie und Psychotherapie}, number = {1}, publisher = {Hogrefe}, doi = {10.1026/1616-3443/a000386}, pages = {23 -- 31}, year = {2017}, language = {de} }
