Individual components used to install the extracorporeal circulation have an impact on the level of activation, most predominantly membrane oxygenators and hardshell venous reservoirs as used in extracorporeal systems. The blood flows in two different hardshell reservoirs are computationally investigated. A special emphasis is placed on the prediction of an onset of transition and turbulence generation. Reynolds-averaged numerical simulations (RANS) based on a transitional turbulence model, as well as large eddy simulations (LES) are applied to achieve an accurate prediction. In the LES analysis, the non-Newtonian behavior of the blood is considered via the Carreau model. Blood damage potential is quantified applying the Modified Index of Hemolysis (MIH) based on the predicted flow fields. The results indicate that the flows in both reservoirs remain predominantly laminar. For one of the reservoirs, considerable turbulence generation is observed near the exit site, caused by the specific design for the connection with the drainage tube. This difference causes the MIH of this reservoir to be nearly twice as large as compared to the alternative design. The most promising concepts are Organic Rankine Cycles (ORC) and Steam Rankine Cycles (SRC). In previous work of the Center of Innovative Energy Systems, D{\"u}sseldorf (Germany), the technical and economic feasibility of a low pressure SRC has been investigated and the advantages in comparison to organic Rankine cycles are highlighted. A distinctive feature of the cycle is the use of the ICE coolant heat for evaporation, which limits the cycles maximum steam pressure to values below atmospheric pressure. This work presents first results of a test rig with data reconciliation according to DIN 2048 to validate the simulation results and design calculations. As a basis for the experimental investigations, a gas fired CHP plant was selected. The design of the test rig is optimized for the operation in the laboratory, where the coolant heat is emulated by a tempering device and the exhaust heat of the CHP plant is emulated by a gas burner. With the designed test rig, it is possible to control the volume flow and the temperatures of the coolant and exhaust gas, so that different load conditions of the gas fired CHP plant can be investigated. For initial tests, the turbine in the SRC is replaced by a throttle to achieve the pressure drop of the turbine. The experimental results show, that the exhaust and coolant heat of a 36 kWel CHP plant can be emulated and the performance expectations of the cycle can be met in stable steady-state conditions. Based on the measurement results and the turbine design calculations an electric power output of the cycle of 3.8 kW will be possible, which results in a cycle efficiency of about 6.5 \% and an increase of the electrical power output of the CHP plant of about 10 \%. The results show that the plant concept is technically feasible and, with further optimization, also represents an alternative to ORC plants in terms of increasing the efficiency of a cogeneration plant.}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{RoedderSpiegelFranketal.2019, author = {R{\"o}dder, Maximilian and Spiegel, Thomas and Frank, Lena and Neef, Matthias and Adam, Mario}, title = {Integration eines multifunktionalen W{\"a}rmepumpensystems als Hardware-in-the-Loop in ein Niederspannungsnetzmodell}, series = {Smart Energy and Systems 2019: Digitalisierung - Anwendungen in Technik und Industriegesellschaft, 10. To prepare leading edge serrations for industrial application, two obstacles remain to be addressed. First is a combined analysis of the aeroacoustic and the aerodynamic performance of leading edge serrations to develop optimum designs. Second is the need to examine the transferability of the known effects of leading edge serrations from a single aerofoil to full rotors, which are considered to be the final area of application. This thesis aims to assist in the transfer of a well-investigated aerofoil with serrated leading edges from the rigid to the rotating domain. With this purpose, a single aerofoil type is selected and thoroughly analysed, experimentally and numerically, to generate a reliable data basis for aerodynamic performance and noise reduction capability. Aside from gathering information on the overall performance, the spatial distribution of the noise sources is localised, and the spectral composition of the noise reduction is found to follow a clearly defined scaling law. Aerodynamically, generated vortices are found to be responsible for a complex three-dimensional separation mechanism of the leading edge serrations, causing a delay of stall. The generated data basis is then used to design low-pressure axial fans of minimum complexity by keeping the initially chosen aerofoil type. The experimentally identified noise reduction mechanisms for the serrated axial fans are found to be more diverse than the single aerofoil and highly dependent on the inflow conditions and the operation point of the fan. A highly similar pattern for the spectral scaling of the noise reduction supports the finding that at optimum operation conditions, the previously identified noise reduction mechanisms for the single aerofoils are transferable to the rotating domain. On the other hand, additional aerodynamic mechanisms are found to dominate the noise reduction for the instability region of the fan, also contributing to reduced blade-to-blade interaction effects. Moreover, the blade-tip leakage flow is altered by delaying the development of coherent structures. The next step towards a more general description of the aeroacoustic and aerodynamic dependencies is developing a comprehensive model based on artificial neural networks. This model allows a combined analysis of the aerodynamic and acoustic performance of rotors with serrated leading edges and shows an accurate prediction of the overall performance and the spectral composition of the radiated noise. It also enables the development of multi-objective optima for serration designs and motivates further studies into the generalisability of the observed trends. Furthermore, the developed model represents a feasible tool to create tailored serration designs for maximum efficiency in both aeroacoustics and aerodynamics, contributing to the development of future low-noise fans and rotating machinery.}, language = {en} } @article{BhattacharyyaChattopadhyayGuinetal.2019, author = {Bhattacharyya, Suvanjan and Chattopadhyay, Himadri and Guin, Anindya and Benim, Ali Cemal}, title = {Investigation of Inclined Turbulators for Heat Transfer Enhancement in a Solar Air Heater}, series = {Heat Transfer Engineering}, volume = {40}, journal = {Heat Transfer Engineering}, number = {17/18}, publisher = {Taylor \& Francis}, doi = {10.1080/01457632.2018.1474593}, pages = {1451 -- 1460}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @article{DeckertSchomaker2019, author = {Deckert, Carsten and Schomaker, Rahel M.}, title = {Cultural Impacts on National Innovativeness: Not Every Cultural Dimension Is Equal}, series = {Cross-Cultural Research}, volume = {53}, journal = {Cross-Cultural Research}, number = {2}, publisher = {sage journals}, doi = {10.1177/1069397118799700}, pages = {186 -- 214}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{AdamGottschaldReichetal.2019, author = {Adam, Mario and Gottschald, Jonas and Reich, Marius and G{\"o}tzelmann, Dennis}, title = {BestHeatNet - Selbstlernende Betriebsoptimierung einer hybriden Nahw{\"a}rmeversorgung}, series = {Der Geothermiekongress, 19.-21.11.2019, M{\"u}nchen}, booktitle = {Der Geothermiekongress, 19.-21.11.2019, M{\"u}nchen}, address = {M{\"u}nchen}, year = {2019}, language = {de} } @article{GirodBreitkreuzHenningetal.2019, author = {Girod, Kai and Breitkreuz, Klaas and Henning, Torsten and Lohmann, Heiko and Kaluza, Stefan and Schluter, Stefan}, title = {Steel Mills as Syngas Source for Methanol Synthesis: Simulation and Practical Performance Investigations}, series = {Chemical Engineering Transactions}, volume = {74}, journal = {Chemical Engineering Transactions}, publisher = {AIDIC}, isbn = {978-88-95608-71-6}, issn = {2283-9216}, doi = {10.3303/CET1974080}, pages = {475 -- 480}, year = {2019}, abstract = {In the present contribution, the utilization of steel-mill gases for an industrial methanol synthesis process is described. Presently this cannot be recorded appropriately, when the concentrations of fine particulate matter are monitored only at rarely distributed single points by the official measurement systems of the environmental state agencies. On the other hand, meanwhile there are low cost and mid cost sensors for the measurement of fine particulate matter available, which enable the parallel monitoring with many measurement systems in an extended area of the town. By this way, the effect of traffic restrictions on the distribution of fine particulate matter in the city can potentially be observed. However, at this point the question arises, how reliable the results are, which are delivered by the low and mid cost sensors for fine particulate matter. For this reason different low cost and mid cost sensors have been evaluated for this study and intercompared with certified reference measurement systems for fine particulate matter. The study comprised the sensors SDS011 (Nova Fitness), which is in use already for several citizen science projects in Germany, SPS30 (Sensirion), OPC-R1 (Alphasense), OPC-N2 (Alphasense) and OPC-N3 (Alphasense). This study was performed at urban sites in D{\"u}sseldorf (Germany) for several weeks and covered different traffic loads and different meteorological situations, in order to get representative results. As atmospheric humidity can influence the measurement results, the humidity was measured in parallel to the fine particulate matter. It could be shown that the validity of the measurement results of fine particulate matter could be improved, when the parallel readings of the humidity were taken into account.}, subject = {Messtechnik}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{WeberThielkeFischer2019, author = {Weber, Konradin and Thielke, Jan and Fischer, Christian}, title = {Evaluation of selected physical parameters measured with smartphones}, series = {Verhandlungen der Deutschen Physikalische Gesellschaft e.V.}, booktitle = {Verhandlungen der Deutschen Physikalische Gesellschaft e.V.}, publisher = {Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft e.V.}, address = {Bad Honnef}, year = {2019}, subject = {Messtechnik}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{WeberHewelingPohletal.2019, author = {Weber, Konradin and Heweling, Georg and Pohl, Tobias and Fischer, Christian and B{\"o}hlke, Christoph}, title = {Untersuchung der raum-zeitlichen Variabilit{\"a}t verschiedener Luftschadstoffe in der Innenstadt D{\"u}sseldorfs mit mobilen Messungen}, series = {Verhandlungen der Deutschen Physikalischen Gesellschaft e.V.}, booktitle = {Verhandlungen der Deutschen Physikalischen Gesellschaft e.V.}, publisher = {Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft e.V.}, address = {Bad Honnef}, year = {2019}, subject = {Luftverunreinigender Stoff}, language = {de} } @inproceedings{WeberKramerPohletal.2019, author = {Weber, Konradin and Kramer, Tim and Pohl, Tobias and Fischer, Christian}, title = {Evaluation und Vergleich von kosteng{\"u}nstigen Sensoren f{\"u}r Feinstaub}, series = {Verhandlungen der Deutschen Physikalischen Gesellschaft e.V.}, booktitle = {Verhandlungen der Deutschen Physikalischen Gesellschaft e.V.}, publisher = {Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft e.V.}, address = {Bad Honnef}, year = {2019}, subject = {Messtechnik}, language = {de} } @inproceedings{OPUS4-5070, title = {SPIE Proceedings, Remote Sensing of Clouds and the Atmosphere XXIV}, volume = {11152}, editor = {Comer{\´o}n, Adolfo and Kassianov, Evgueni I. and Sch{\"a}fer, Klaus and Picard, Richard H. and Weber, Konradin and Singh, Upendra N.}, publisher = {SPIE}, isbn = {9781510630086}, issn = {1996-756X}, year = {2019}, subject = {Telemetrie}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{WeberKramerFischeretal.2019, author = {Weber, Konradin and Kramer, Tim and Fischer, Christian and Pohl, Tobias and B{\"o}hlke, Christoph}, title = {Application and Feld-Testing of Different Low Cost Sensors for Particulate Matter}, series = {European Aerosol Conference 2019, 25.-30. In steel plants, physical values are distributed over the complete process chain of steel making while the environmental conditions are harsh with respect to high temperature, aggressive fluids, water, shock and dust. These conditions render the use of electronic devices focusing a consumer market impossible. The developed self-contained smart measuring system presented in this paper survives in harsh environments and is composed of small-sized modules providing miscellaneous functionalities. The high degree of modularity in hard-and software facilitates a cost-effective adaptation to many applications, like vibration monitoring, temperature logging or torque measurement. Different onboard measurement components are available yet, namely high sensitive bridge amplifiers for strain measurements, accelerometers, gyroscopes, orientation-, temperature- and humidity sensors as well as an unique system identification. A communication module enables wireless transmission of the acquired data via Bluetooth or NFC online. Moreover, different power supply features are supported by the power module: Ultra-low power modes for long-life battery use, recharging of lithium cells, and an inductive power supply for wireless power transfer for applications with moving or rotating components. The photooxidation of the most abundant monoterpene, α-pinene, by the hydroxyl radical (OH) was investigated at atmospheric concentrations in the atmospheric simulation chamber SAPHIR. Concentrations of nitric oxide (NO) were below 120 pptv. Yields of organic oxidation products are determined from measured time series giving values of 0.11±0.05, 0.19±0.06, and 0.05±0.03 for formaldehyde, acetone, and pinonaldehyde, respectively. The pinonaldehyde yield is at the low side of yields measured in previous laboratory studies, ranging from 0.06 to 0.87. These studies were mostly performed at reactant concentrations much higher than observed in the atmosphere. Time series of measured radical and trace-gas concentrations are compared to results from model calculations applying the Master Chemical Mechanism (MCM) 3.3.1. The model predicts pinonaldehyde mixing ratios that are at least a factor of 4 higher than measured values. At the same time, modeled hydroxyl and hydroperoxy (HO2) radical concentrations are approximately 25 \% lower than measured values. Vereecken et al. (2007) suggested a shift of the initial organic peroxy radical (RO2) distribution towards RO2 species that do not yield pinonaldehyde but produce other organic products. Implementing these modifications reduces the model-measurement gap of pinonaldehyde by 20 \% and also improves the agreement in modeled and measured radical concentrations by 10 \%. However, the chemical oxidation mechanism needs further adjustment to explain observed radical and pinonaldehyde concentrations. This could be achieved by adjusting the initial RO2 distribution, but could also be done by implementing alternative reaction channels of RO2 species that currently lead to the formation of pinonaldehyde in the model.}, language = {en} } @misc{JahrTrofimov2019, author = {Jahr, Andreas and Trofimov, Igor}, title = {F{\"o}rdersystem f{\"u}r Sch{\"u}ttg{\"u}ter}, year = {2019}, abstract = {Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren und eine Vorrichtung zur Ermittlung der Masse und F{\"o}rdergeschwindigkeit von Sch{\"u}ttg{\"u}tern in einem Linearf{\"o}rderer, wobei aus einem Sch{\"u}ttgutbeh{\"a}lter das Sch{\"u}ttgut {\"u}ber eine M{\"u}ndung auf eine F{\"o}rderrinne gelangt.}, language = {de} } @misc{FrankRoedderNeefetal.2020, author = {Frank, Lena and R{\"o}dder, Maximilian and Neef, Matthias and Adam, Mario}, title = {energiBUS4home - Integration von Haushaltsger{\"a}ten in ein multifunktionales W{\"a}rmepumpensystem}, series = {KI K{\"a}lte Luft Klimatechnik}, volume = {56}, journal = {KI K{\"a}lte Luft Klimatechnik}, number = {8/9}, publisher = {H{\"u}thig}, issn = {1865-5432}, pages = {41 -- 45}, year = {2020}, language = {de} } @misc{LambachKowalskiReichetal.2020, author = {Lambach, Stefan and Kowalski, M. and Reich, Marius and Adam, Mario}, title = {Vermessung und Modellierung eines Komfort-L{\"u}ftungsger{\"a}tes mit passiver W{\"a}rmer{\"u}ckgewinnung und aktiver, umschaltbarer Luft/Luft-W{\"a}rmepumpe im K{\"u}hlbetrieb}, series = {KI K{\"a}lte Luft Klimatechnik}, volume = {56}, journal = {KI K{\"a}lte Luft Klimatechnik}, number = {10}, publisher = {H{\"u}thig}, issn = {1865-5432}, pages = {48 -- 55}, year = {2020}, language = {de} } @article{BenimPfeiffelmann2020, author = {Benim, Ali Cemal and Pfeiffelmann, Bj{\"o}rn}, title = {Comparison of Combustion Models for Lifted Hydrogen Flames within RANS Framework}, series = {Energies}, volume = {13}, journal = {Energies}, number = {1}, publisher = {MDPI}, issn = {1996-1073}, doi = {10.3390/en13010152}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:due62-opus-27727}, pages = {152}, year = {2020}, language = {en} } @article{FominPetelinJahr2020, author = {Fomin, Alexey and Petelin, Daniil and Jahr, Andreas}, title = {Synthesis and Analysis of a Novel Linkage Mechanism with the Helical Motion of the End-Effector}, series = {Robotics}, volume = {9}, journal = {Robotics}, number = {3}, publisher = {MDPI}, issn = {2218-6581}, doi = {10.3390/robotics9030053}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:due62-opus-27736}, pages = {1 -- 15}, year = {2020}, language = {en} } @article{PfeiffelmannDiederichGueletal.2020, author = {Pfeiffelmann, Bj{\"o}rn and Diederich, Michael and G{\"u}l, Fethi and Benim, Ali Cemal and Heese, Markus and Hamberger, Andreas}, title = {Computational and Experimental Investigation of an Industrial Biomass Furnace}, series = {Chemical Engineering \& Technology}, volume = {43}, journal = {Chemical Engineering \& Technology}, number = {8}, publisher = {Wiley}, issn = {1521-4125}, doi = {10.1002/ceat.201900637}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:due62-opus-27747}, pages = {1538 -- 1546}, year = {2020}, language = {en} } @article{ShahzadGulistanAlietal.2020, author = {Shahzad, Azeem and Gulistan, Uzma and Ali, Ramzan and Iqbal, Azhar and Benim, Ali Cemal and Kamran, Muhammad and Khan, Salah Ud-Din and Khan, Shahab Ud-Din and Farooq, Aamir}, title = {Numerical Study of Axisymmetric Flow and Heat Transfer in a Liquid Film over an Unsteady Radially Stretching Surface}, series = {Mathematical Problems in Engineering}, volume = {2020}, journal = {Mathematical Problems in Engineering}, publisher = {Hindawi}, doi = {10.1155/2020/6737243}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:due62-opus-27755}, pages = {1 -- 9}, year = {2020}, language = {en} } @article{BiedermannReichPaschereit2020, author = {Biedermann, Till M. and Reich, M. and Paschereit, C. This results in an increasing demand for mobility solutions while it is also worldwide aimed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This paper summarizes the results of a comparative study concerning the greenhouse gas emissions (based on carbon footprint) caused by alternative urban passenger transportation systems. The emissions for the vehicles and their infrastructure are analyszed over the entire life cycle from manufacturing up to their end of life. An existing cable car sytem in La Paz, Bolivia was analysed and evaluated in comparison to other modes of transportation such as small busses, large busses and a tram. According to the system definitions and the considered balance framework the study shows that beside the use of the systems the materials and the manufacturing as well as the infrastructure have a significant impact on the total emissions over the life cycle. To put focus on the „true and real" impacts to the society it is preferable to consider the measurement results in total absolute emissions.}, language = {en} } @article{DeckertMohya2020, author = {Deckert, Carsten and Mohya, Ahmed}, title = {Kreativit{\"a}tstechniken f{\"u}r angehende Ingenieurinnen und Ingenieure}, series = {Innovations-Forum}, volume = {18}, journal = {Innovations-Forum}, number = {1}, publisher = {InnoFo}, pages = {42 -- 46}, year = {2020}, abstract = {In Zeiten fortschreitender Digitalisierung und zunehmender Transparenz auf den M{\"a}rkten m{\"u}ssen sich Unternehmen mit zunehmenden Ver{\"a}nderungen, z. This is not only emitted from localized craters, but can emerge as distributed and fugitive emissions on extended volcanic areas. In this situation it is of interest to explore the distribution and horizontal concentration profiles of the CO2-emissions. For this purpose new drop-sondes for sensor measurements of CO2 emissions are under development at the Duesseldorf University of Applied Sciences. These drop-sondes are designed to be dropped from aircraft or drones over volcanic areas in order to map the distributed CO2 concentrations over longer times in an unattended way. They are very lightweight and cheap, so that a large number of drop-sondes might be deployed even over remote areas or regions with difficult access. The data are transmitted with GSM broadcasting and can be visualized on a geographical map. The drop-sondes use an NDIR CO2 sensor as a base for the measurement unit. Additionally to CO2 the atmospheric pressure, temperature and humidity are measured. The sensor unit is mounted in a special shock absorbing housing, which is designed to absorb impacts from the touch down after dropping of the sensor and is able to resist even adverse weather conditions. First measurement results and more details of the design of the sensor unit will be presented in this contribution}, subject = {Sonde}, language = {en} } @article{BeckerLippelStuhlsatzetal.2020, author = {Becker, Martin and Lippel, Jens and Stuhlsatz, Andr{\´e} and Zielke, Thomas}, title = {Robust dimensionality reduction for data visualization with deep neural networks}, series = {Graphical Models}, volume = {108}, journal = {Graphical Models}, publisher = {Elsevier}, issn = {1524-0703}, doi = {10.1016/j.gmod.2020.101060}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:due62-opus-26904}, pages = {101060}, year = {2020}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{MuenchReichAdam2020, author = {M{\"u}nch, Justin and Reich, Marius and Adam, Mario}, title = {Entwicklung eines Tools zur automatisierten Optimierung von Energiesystemen durch Maschinelles Lernen}, series = {RET.Con 2020. 3.
