Individual components used to install the extracorporeal circulation have an impact on the level of activation, most predominantly membrane oxygenators and hardshell venous reservoirs as used in extracorporeal systems. The blood flows in two different hardshell reservoirs are computationally investigated. A special emphasis is placed on the prediction of an onset of transition and turbulence generation. Reynolds-averaged numerical simulations (RANS) based on a transitional turbulence model, as well as large eddy simulations (LES) are applied to achieve an accurate prediction. In the LES analysis, the non-Newtonian behavior of the blood is considered via the Carreau model. Blood damage potential is quantified applying the Modified Index of Hemolysis (MIH) based on the predicted flow fields. The results indicate that the flows in both reservoirs remain predominantly laminar. For one of the reservoirs, considerable turbulence generation is observed near the exit site, caused by the specific design for the connection with the drainage tube. This difference causes the MIH of this reservoir to be nearly twice as large as compared to the alternative design. However, a substantial improvement of these performance criteria can be expected by a local geometry modification.}, language = {en} } @article{DeckertSchomaker2019, author = {Deckert, Carsten and Schomaker, Rahel M.}, title = {Kultur und Innovation - Wie sich kulturelle Faktoren auf die nationale Innovationsf{\"a}higkeit auswirken}, series = {Der Betriebswirt}, volume = {60}, journal = {Der Betriebswirt}, number = {2}, publisher = {Duncker \& Humblot}, issn = {2628-7846}, doi = {10.3790/dbw.60.2.18}, pages = {18 -- 23}, year = {2019}, language = {de} } @article{PfeiffelmannBenimJoos2019, author = {Pfeiffelmann, Bj{\"o}rn and Benim, Ali Cemal and Joos, Franz}, title = {A Finite Volume Analysis of Thermoelectric Generators}, series = {Heat Transfer Engineering}, volume = {40}, journal = {Heat Transfer Engineering}, number = {17-18}, publisher = {Taylor \& Francis}, issn = {0145-7632}, doi = {10.1080/01457632.2018.1474588}, pages = {1442 -- 1450}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @article{GuoDoRuess2019, author = {Guo, Y. and Do, H. and Ruess, Martin}, title = {Isogeometric stability analysis of thin shells: From simple geometries to engineering models}, series = {International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering}, volume = {118}, journal = {International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering}, number = {8}, publisher = {Wiley}, issn = {1097-0207}, doi = {10.1002/nme.6020}, pages = {433 -- 458}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @article{PfeiffelmannOezmanBenimetal.2019, author = {Pfeiffelmann, Bj{\"o}rn and {\"O}zman, Cansu and Benim, Ali Cemal and Joos, Franz}, title = {Variable temperature effects on TEG performance}, series = {E3S Web of Conferences}, volume = {128}, journal = {E3S Web of Conferences}, publisher = {edp sciences}, issn = {2267-1242}, doi = {10.1051/e3sconf/201912807004}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:due62-opus-27893}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @article{SaeedrashedBenim2019, author = {Saeedrashed, Younis Saida and Benim, Ali Cemal}, title = {Validation Methods of Geometric 3D-CityGML Data for Urban Wind Simulations}, series = {E3S Web of Conferences}, volume = {128}, journal = {E3S Web of Conferences}, publisher = {edp sciences}, issn = {2267-1242}, doi = {10.1051/e3sconf/201912810006}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:due62-opus-27906}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @article{HeinzeFehselJappe2019, author = {Heinze, Thomas and Fehsel, Imke and Jappe, Arlette}, title = {Reformimpulse durch hochschulpolitische Beratung? Rituals are also common in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). In contrast to OCD, the proposed associations between rituals and intrusive thoughts/appearance preoccupation have not been empirically investigated for BDD. We examined if the assumed effect of gazing rituals on attractiveness ratings exists and if it is associated with dissociation. In an experiment, we asked N = 65 non-clinical females to focus on the nose of a photographed face at pre- and post-test. In between, participants gazed at the nose of either the same (relevant gazing) or another face (irrelevant gazing). We found increasing dissociation after gazing in both conditions and a differentially stronger decrease of attractiveness ratings in the relevant gazing condition. The present study examined the effect of an avatar-guide on the user-related factors of Spatial Presence, Social Presence, User Experience and Task Load in order to propose design guidelines for co-located collaborative immersive virtual environments. Therefore, an application was developed and a user study with 40 participants was conducted in order to compare both guiding techniques of a realtime-tracked avatar guide and a non-visualised guide with otherwise constant conditions. Results reveal that the avatar-guide enhanced and stimulated communicative processes while facilitating interaction possibilities and creating a higher sense of mental immersion for users. Furthermore, the avatar-guide appeared to make the storyline more engaging and exciting while helping users adapt to the medium of virtual reality. Even though no assertion could be made concerning the Task Load factor, the avatar-guide achieved a higher subjective value on User Experience. Until now, little has been written about the processes underlying the selection of music in daily life. The present study aimed to disentangle some of the complex processes among the listener, situation, and functions of music listening involved in music selection. Utilizing the experience sampling method, data were collected from 119 participants using a smartphone application. For 10 consecutive days, participants received 14 prompts using stratified-random sampling throughout the day and reported on their music-listening behavior. Statistical learning procedures on multilevel regression models and multilevel structural equation modeling were used to determine the most important predictors and analyze mediation processes between person, situation, functions of listening, and music selection. Results revealed that the features of music selected in daily life were predominantly determined by situational characteristics, whereas consistent individual differences were of minor importance. Functions of music listening were found to act as a mediator between characteristics of the situation and music-selection behavior. We further observed several significant random effects, which indicated that individuals differed in how situational variables affected their music selection behavior. Our findings suggest a need to shift the focus of music-listening research from individual differences to situational influences, including potential person-situation interactions.}, language = {en} } @article{AngladaTortSteffensMuellensiefen2019, author = {Anglada-Tort, Manuel and Steffens, Jochen and M{\"u}llensiefen, Daniel}, title = {Names and titles matter: The impact of linguistic fluency and the affect heuristic on aesthetic and value judgements of music}, series = {Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity, and the Arts}, volume = {13}, journal = {Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity, and the Arts}, number = {3}, publisher = {APA}, doi = {10.1037/aca0000172}, pages = {277 -- 292}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @article{RosenfeldSteffens2019, author = {Rosenfeld, Ninett and Steffens, Jochen}, title = {Effects of congruency of combined audiovisual stimuli in movie scenes on perceived emotions in the context of film reception}, series = {Psychomusicology: Music, Mind \& Brain}, volume = {29}, journal = {Psychomusicology: Music, Mind \& Brain}, number = {4}, publisher = {APA}, doi = {10.1037/pmu0000242}, pages = {200 -- 208}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @masterthesis{Jakobs2019, type = {Bachelor Thesis}, author = {Jakobs, Lisa}, title = {Sechs Jahre nach dem Geb{\"a}udeeinsturz der Textilfabrik Rana Plaza in Bangladesch: Evaluierung aus menschenrechtlicher Perspektive}, address = {D{\"u}sseldorf}, organization = {Hochschule D{\"u}sseldorf}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:due62-opus-23424}, school = {Hochschule D{\"u}sseldorf}, pages = {80}, year = {2019}, language = {de} } @inproceedings{Mohren2019, author = {Mohren, Henning}, title = {Dienstleistungen der Campus IT unter Governance-Gesichtspunkten}, series = {Herbsttagung der Zentren f{\"u}r Kommunikations- und Informationsverarbeitung e.V. In Germany, a growing number of young people with psychological disabilities in vocational rehabilitation can be observed. The study at hand focuses on this group and examines their (un-)unemployment biographies before vocational rehabilitation, their access to vocational rehabilitation and identifies their individual challenges within the process of vocational rehabilitation. Methods Using a multi-methods approach, we analyze representative administrative data of the German Federal Employment Agency as well as biographical interviews conducted with young rehabilitants. We compare the population of young rehabilitants with psychological disorders to those with other disabilities in terms of vocational rehabilitation and initial labor market entry in order to get a representative picture about their school to work transitions. Since rehabilitants with psychological disabilities tend to be older than the remaining population, analyses are stratified by age groups. In addition, qualitative in-depth interviews provide an additional and deeper understanding of specific employment barriers youth with psychological disorders have to overcome. Furthermore, the individual perspective gives insight on how the crucial transition from school to work is perceived by the population under study. Results The pathway into vocational rehabilitation of youth with psychological disorders is often characterized by obstacles in their transition from school to work. During rehabilitation, it appears essential to provide psychological stabilization along with vocational training. Although their average level of education is higher than those of other rehabilitants, labor market transition after (often company-external) vocational training challenges many young people with psychological disabilities, leaving many of them with comparatively poor labor market prospects. Conclusions Young persons with psychological disabilities, who come from regular schools or dropped out from regular school or university, seem to find their way to vocational rehabilitation more indirectly. Furthermore, vocational rehabilitation itself is often prolonged for those with psychological disabilities possibly due to a corresponding stabilization process. However, vocational rehabilitation can be a core element within the stabilization process of a psychological disease.}, language = {en} } @article{HiesingerTophoven2019, author = {Hiesinger, Karolin and Tophoven, Silke}, title = {Job requirement level, work demands, and health: a prospective study among older workers}, series = {International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health}, volume = {92}, journal = {International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health}, publisher = {Springer Nature}, doi = {10.1007/s00420-019-01451-2}, pages = {1139 -- 1149}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @book{Khabyuk2019, author = {Khabyuk, Olexiy}, title = {Kommunikationsmodelle: Grundlagen - Anwendungsfelder - Grenzen}, series = {BWL Bachelor Basics}, journal = {BWL Bachelor Basics}, publisher = {Verlag W. Unter Diasporapolitik werden alle staatlichen Institutionen und Praktiken, die auf B{\"u}rger_innen im Ausland zielen, zusammengefasst. In autorit{\"a}ren Systemen pr{\"a}gen und beschr{\"a}nken allerdings Vorbehalte gegen{\"u}ber politischer Beteiligung s{\"a}mtlicher gesellschaftlicher Gruppen die Zusammenarbeit mit B{\"u}rger_innen im Ausland. The most promising concepts are Organic Rankine Cycles (ORC) and Steam Rankine Cycles (SRC). In previous work of the Center of Innovative Energy Systems, D{\"u}sseldorf (Germany), the technical and economic feasibility of a low pressure SRC has been investigated and the advantages in comparison to organic Rankine cycles are highlighted. A distinctive feature of the cycle is the use of the ICE coolant heat for evaporation, which limits the cycles maximum steam pressure to values below atmospheric pressure. This work presents first results of a test rig with data reconciliation according to DIN 2048 to validate the simulation results and design calculations. As a basis for the experimental investigations, a gas fired CHP plant was selected. The design of the test rig is optimized for the operation in the laboratory, where the coolant heat is emulated by a tempering device and the exhaust heat of the CHP plant is emulated by a gas burner. With the designed test rig, it is possible to control the volume flow and the temperatures of the coolant and exhaust gas, so that different load conditions of the gas fired CHP plant can be investigated. For initial tests, the turbine in the SRC is replaced by a throttle to achieve the pressure drop of the turbine. The experimental results show, that the exhaust and coolant heat of a 36 kWel CHP plant can be emulated and the performance expectations of the cycle can be met in stable steady-state conditions. Based on the measurement results and the turbine design calculations an electric power output of the cycle of 3.8 kW will be possible, which results in a cycle efficiency of about 6.5 \% and an increase of the electrical power output of the CHP plant of about 10 \%. The results show that the plant concept is technically feasible and, with further optimization, also represents an alternative to ORC plants in terms of increasing the efficiency of a cogeneration plant.}, language = {en} } @article{BaierNeef2019, author = {Baier, Andr{\´e} and Neef, Matthias}, title = {Studierende lehren und lernen sozial-{\"o}kologische Verantwortung}, series = {Die Neue Hochschule}, volume = {60}, journal = {Die Neue Hochschule}, number = {5}, organization = {Hochschullehrerbund - Bundesvereinigung - e.V. To prepare leading edge serrations for industrial application, two obstacles remain to be addressed. First is a combined analysis of the aeroacoustic and the aerodynamic performance of leading edge serrations to develop optimum designs. Second is the need to examine the transferability of the known effects of leading edge serrations from a single aerofoil to full rotors, which are considered to be the final area of application. This thesis aims to assist in the transfer of a well-investigated aerofoil with serrated leading edges from the rigid to the rotating domain. With this purpose, a single aerofoil type is selected and thoroughly analysed, experimentally and numerically, to generate a reliable data basis for aerodynamic performance and noise reduction capability. Aside from gathering information on the overall performance, the spatial distribution of the noise sources is localised, and the spectral composition of the noise reduction is found to follow a clearly defined scaling law. Aerodynamically, generated vortices are found to be responsible for a complex three-dimensional separation mechanism of the leading edge serrations, causing a delay of stall. The generated data basis is then used to design low-pressure axial fans of minimum complexity by keeping the initially chosen aerofoil type. The experimentally identified noise reduction mechanisms for the serrated axial fans are found to be more diverse than the single aerofoil and highly dependent on the inflow conditions and the operation point of the fan. A highly similar pattern for the spectral scaling of the noise reduction supports the finding that at optimum operation conditions, the previously identified noise reduction mechanisms for the single aerofoils are transferable to the rotating domain. On the other hand, additional aerodynamic mechanisms are found to dominate the noise reduction for the instability region of the fan, also contributing to reduced blade-to-blade interaction effects. Moreover, the blade-tip leakage flow is altered by delaying the development of coherent structures. The next step towards a more general description of the aeroacoustic and aerodynamic dependencies is developing a comprehensive model based on artificial neural networks. This model allows a combined analysis of the aerodynamic and acoustic performance of rotors with serrated leading edges and shows an accurate prediction of the overall performance and the spectral composition of the radiated noise. It also enables the development of multi-objective optima for serration designs and motivates further studies into the generalisability of the observed trends. Furthermore, the developed model represents a feasible tool to create tailored serration designs for maximum efficiency in both aeroacoustics and aerodynamics, contributing to the development of future low-noise fans and rotating machinery.}, language = {en} } @techreport{Vogel2019, author = {Vogel, Peter}, title = {Investieren unter Nebenbedingungen - Teil 3: Erweiterung der Statistik}, publisher = {Hochschule D{\"u}sseldorf}, address = {D{\"u}sseldorf}, organization = {Hochschule D{\"u}sseldorf}, issn = {2567-2347}, doi = {10.20385/2567-2347/2019.3}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:due62-opus-20373}, pages = {59}, year = {2019}, abstract = {Der dritte Teil der Schriftenreihe entwickelt die statistische Beschreibung f{\"u}r das Investieren in Wertpapiere weiter, welche in den ersten beiden Teilen begonnen wurde.
