Borrowing from the wave-particle duality in physics one could say that there is an originality-effectiveness duality at work for creativity. The paper explores how this tension pervades Amabile's (1997) componential theory of organizational creativity with the components organizational motivation, management practices (including work assignment and work control) and resources. As a method the so called value square (" Wertequadrat ") developed by Helwig (1967) and Schulz von Thun (1998) is used which balances a value with its countervalue. The author identifies a tension of corporate tradition and corporate change for organizational motivation, a tension of skills and challenges for work assignment, a tension of management by control and management by loss of control for work control as well as a tension of organizational efficiency and organizational slack for resources. Additionally different implications of these tensions for the resistance of a company to creativity, for an organizational climate conducive to creativity as well as for resource allocation in creative endeavours are discussed.}, language = {en} } @article{Deckert2016, author = {Deckert, Carsten}, title = {On the Originality-Effectiveness Duality of Creativity: Tensions Concerning the Components of Creativity}, series = {Business Creativity and the Creative Economy}, volume = {2}, journal = {Business Creativity and the Creative Economy}, number = {1}, doi = {10.18536/bcce.2016.10.2.1.07}, pages = {70 -- 82}, year = {2016}, abstract = {The standard definition of individual creativity is based on a tension between originality on the one side and effectiveness (usefulness and appropriateness) on the other side. In this article this tension is called the originality-effectiveness duality of creativity. The article explores how this duality pervades the componential theories of creativity. To analyze the components of creativity with regard to their tensions, the so called value square ("Wertequadrat") developed by Helwig (1967) and Schulz von Thun (1998) is used. The value square explains each component as a dynamic equilibrium and shows how a positive value is balanced with its positive countervalue. The aim of this article is to evaluate the effectiveness of using a Myo control armband and the Kinect 2 for recognition of gestures in order to interact with virtual objects in a weather report scenario. The Myo armband has an inertial measurement unit and is able to read electrical activity produced by skeletal muscles, which can be recognized as gestures, which are trained by machine learning. A Kinect sensor was used to build up a dataset which contains motion recordings of 8 different gestures and was also build up by a gesture training machine learning algorithm. Robotic systems allow the automation of common and repeated tracking shots. However, predefined camera shots do not allow quick adjustments when required due to unpredictable events. We introduce a modular automated robotic camera control and video switch system, based on fundamental cinematographic rules. The actors' positions are provided by a markerless tracking system. In addition, sound levels of actors' lavalier microphones are used to analyse the current scene. An expert system determines appropriate camera angles and decides when to switch from one camera to another. As a first step, a simple, understandable formula was developed how to advance from the problem to the program in 5 operative steps: read it → get it → think it → note it → code it. In order to reduce the cognitive load of the learners effectively, 5Code was designed such that all 5 steps are permanently presented, accessible and executable. Thus, learners are provided with the entire programming context from presentation of the task via own notes and annotations to the code area. Learners can mark and annotate any part of the given task's text; these annotations can be edited as notes with own comments. Furthermore, the notes can be dragged into the code area, where they are shown as comments in the coding language. Any modifications in the comments are synchronized between notes and code. 5Code is implemented as a web-application. It is used in university introductory courses on object oriented programming.}, language = {en} } @misc{OPUS4-867, title = {Gesamtevaluationsbericht: Studienjahr 2015}, address = {D{\"u}sseldorf}, organization = {Hochschule D{\"u}sseldorf}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:due62-opus-11632}, year = {2016}, language = {de} } @misc{OPUS4-864, title = {Zahlenspiegel 2015: Gender Report}, address = {D{\"u}sseldorf}, organization = {Hochschule D{\"u}sseldorf}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:due62-opus-11544}, year = {2016}, language = {de} }
