The performance of different interpolation techniques applied to sparsely sampled directivity measurements depends on the sampling grid used but also on the radiation pattern of the sources themselves. Therefore, we evaluated three established approaches for interpolation from a low-resolution sampling grid using high-resolution measurements of a representative sample of musical instruments as a reference. The smallest global error on average occurs for thin plate pseudo-spline interpolation. For interpolation based on spherical harmonics (SH) decomposition, the SH order and the spatial sampling scheme applied have a strong and difficult to predict influence on the quality of the interpolation. The piece-wise linear, spherical triangular interpolation provides almost as good results as the first-order spline approach, albeit with on average 20 times higher computational effort. Therefore, for spatial interpolation of sparsely sampled directivity measurements of musical instruments, the thin plate pseudo-spline method applied to absolute-valued data is recommended and, if necessary, a subsequent modeling of the phase}, language = {en} } @article{BrinkmannAspoeckAckermannetal.2021, author = {Brinkmann, Fabian and Asp{\"o}ck, Lukas and Ackermann, David and Opdam, Rob and Vorl{\"a}nder, Michael and Weinzierl, Stefan}, title = {A benchmark for room acoustical simulation. The photo-oxidation of myrcene, a monoterpene species emitted by plants, was investigated at atmospheric conditions in the outdoor simulation chamber SAPHIR (Simulation of Atmospheric PHotochemistry In a Large Reaction Chamber). The chemical structure of myrcene consists of one moiety that is a conjugated π system (similar to isoprene) and another moiety that is a triple-substituted olefinic unit (similar to 2-methyl-2-butene). Hydrogen shift reactions of organic peroxy radicals (RO2) formed in the reaction of isoprene with atmospheric OH radicals are known to be of importance for the regeneration of OH. Structure-activity relationships (SARs) suggest that similar hydrogen shift reactions like in isoprene may apply to the isoprenyl part of RO2 radicals formed during the OH oxidation of myrcene. In addition, SAR predicts further isomerization reactions that would be competitive with bimolecular RO2 reactions for chemical conditions that are typical for forested environments with low concentrations of nitric oxide. Assuming that OH peroxy radicals can rapidly interconvert by addition and elimination of O2 like in isoprene, bulk isomerization rate constants of 0.21 and 0.097 s-1 (T=298 K) for the three isomers resulting from the 3′-OH and 1-OH addition, respectively, can be derived from SAR. Measurements of radicals and trace gases in the experiments allowed us to calculate radical production and destruction rates, which are expected to be balanced. The largest discrepancies between production and destruction rates were found for RO2. Additional loss of organic peroxy radicals due to isomerization reactions could explain the observed discrepancies. The uncertainty of the total radical (ROx=OH+HO2+RO2) production rates was high due to the uncertainty in the yield of radicals from myrcene ozonolysis. However, results indicate that radical production can only be balanced if the reaction rate constant of the reaction between hydroperoxy (HO2) and RO2 radicals derived from myrcene is lower (0.9 to 1.6×10-11 cm3 s-1) than predicted by SAR. Another explanation of the discrepancies would be that a significant fraction of products (yield: 0.3 to 0.6) from these reactions include OH and HO2 radicals instead of radical-terminating organic peroxides. Experiments also allowed us to determine the yields of organic oxidation products acetone (yield: 0.45±0.08) and formaldehyde (yield: 0.35±0.08). Acetone and formaldehyde are produced from different oxidation pathways, so that yields of these compounds reflect the branching ratios of the initial OH addition to myrcene. Yields determined in the experiments are consistent with branching ratios expected from SAR. The yield of organic nitrate was determined from the gas-phase budget analysis of reactive oxidized nitrogen in the chamber, giving a value of 0.13±0.03. In addition, the reaction rate constant for myrcene + OH was determined from the measured myrcene concentration, yielding a value of (2.3±0.3)×10-10 cm3 s-1.}, language = {en} } @article{BergstroemElQasemMorville2021, author = {Bergstr{\"o}m, Aileen and El-Qasem, Kawthar and Morville, Anne-Le}, title = {JOS Special Issue: Occupational Science in Europe}, series = {Journal of Occupational Science}, volume = {28}, journal = {Journal of Occupational Science}, number = {1}, publisher = {Taylor \& Francis}, issn = {1442-7591}, doi = {10.1080/14427591.2021.1886644}, pages = {1 -- 5}, year = {2021}, language = {en} } @article{JacobsHuldtgren2021, author = {Jacobs, Naomi and Huldtgren, Alina}, title = {Why value sensitive design needs ethical commitments}, series = {Ethics and Information Technology}, volume = {23}, journal = {Ethics and Information Technology}, number = {1}, publisher = {Springer Nature}, issn = {1572-8439}, doi = {10.1007/s10676-018-9467-3}, pages = {23 -- 26}, year = {2021}, language = {en} } @article{BaşaranBenimYurddas2021, author = {Ba{\c{s}}aran, An{\i}l and Benim, Ali Cemal and Yurddas, Ali}, title = {Numerical Simulation of the Condensation Flow of the Isobutane (R600a) inside Microchannel}, series = {Heat Transfer Engineering}, volume = {43}, journal = {Heat Transfer Engineering}, number = {3-5}, publisher = {Taylor \& Francis}, issn = {0145-7632}, doi = {10.1080/01457632.2021.1874668}, pages = {337 -- 361}, year = {2021}, language = {en} } @article{Manthe2021, author = {Manthe, Barbara}, title = {On the Pathway to Violence: West German Right-Wing Terrorism in the 1970s}, series = {Terrorism and Political Violence}, volume = {33}, journal = {Terrorism and Political Violence}, number = {1}, publisher = {Taylor \& Francis}, issn = {0954-6553}, doi = {10.1080/09546553.2018.1520701}, pages = {49 -- 70}, year = {2021}, language = {en} } @article{NiemannFusseneckerSchloesseretal.2021, author = {Niemann, Joerg and Fussenecker, Claudia and Schloesser, Martin and Ocakci, Elif}, title = {THE WORKERS PERSPECTIVE - EYE TRACKING IN PRODUCTION ENVIRONMENTS}, series = {ACTA TECHNICA NAPOCENSIS SERIES-APPLIED MATHEMATICS MECHANICS AND ENGINEERING}, volume = {64}, journal = {ACTA TECHNICA NAPOCENSIS SERIES-APPLIED MATHEMATICS MECHANICS AND ENGINEERING}, number = {1}, publisher = {Technical University of Cluj-Napoca}, issn = {1221-5872}, pages = {7 -- 14}, year = {2021}, language = {en} } @article{TiatorKerkmannGeigeretal.2021, author = {Tiator, Marcel and Kerkmann, Anna Maria and Geiger, Christian and Grimm, Paul}, title = {US2RO: Union of Superpoints to Recognize Objects}, series = {International Journal of Semantic Computing}, volume = {15}, journal = {International Journal of Semantic Computing}, number = {04}, publisher = {World Scientific Publishing}, issn = {1793-351X}, doi = {10.1142/S1793351X21400146}, pages = {513 -- 537}, year = {2021}, language = {en} } @article{TarlaoSteffensGuastavino2021, author = {Tarlao, Cynthia and Steffens, Jochen and Guastavino, Catherine}, title = {Investigating contextual influences on urban soundscape evaluations with structural equation modeling}, series = {Building and Environment}, volume = {188}, journal = {Building and Environment}, publisher = {Elsevier}, issn = {0360-1323}, doi = {10.1016/j.buildenv.2020.107490}, year = {2021}, language = {en} } @article{ReimsTophoven2021, author = {Reims, Nancy and Tophoven, Silke}, title = {Double Burden of Disability and Poverty: Does Vocational Rehabilitation Ease the School-to-Work Transition?}, series = {Social Inclusion}, volume = {9}, journal = {Social Inclusion}, number = {4}, publisher = {Cogitatio}, issn = {2183-2803}, doi = {10.17645/si.v9i4.4649}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:due62-opus-40131}, pages = {92 -- 102}, year = {2021}, abstract = {Poor young people more often face health difficulties, (learning) disabilities, and are overrepresented in special schools. We make use of a sample of all persons accepted for VR in 2010 (N = 36,645). We employ logit models on VR attendees' labor market outcomes three and five years after being accepted for VR as well as on their earned vocational qualifications. Beside initial poverty status, we control for educational level, type, and degree of disability and program pattern during the VR process. Our findings show that YPWD from poor households have a decreased likelihood of a vocational certificate and employment. Additionally, they are more likely to receive BIS than young people not from poor households and thus more likely to remain poor. In conclusion, VR seems to support poor YPWD less in their school-to-work transitions. A Eulerian-Lagrangian formulation is used to describe the two-phase flow. Turbulence is modelled within a RANS (Reynolds averaged numerical simulation) framework. Four turbulence viscosity- (TV) based models, namely the standard k-ε model, realizable k-ε model, renormalization group theory k-ε model, and the shear stress transport k-ω model are used. In addition, a Reynolds stress transport model (RSM) is employed. The models are assessed by comparing the predicted velocity fields with the measurements of other authors. In terms of overall average values, the agreement of the predictions to the measurements is observed to be within the range 20-40\%. A better performance of the RSM compared to the TV models is observed, with a nearly twice as better overall agreement to the experiments, particularly for the swirl velocity. In the second part of the investigation, the resolution of the discrete particle phase in modelling the turbulent particle dispersion (TPD) and particle size distribution (SD) is investigated. Using the discrete random walk model for the TPD, it is shown that even five random walks are sufficient for an accuracy that is quite high, with a less than 1\% mean deviation from the solution obtained by thirty random walks. The approximation of the measured SD is determined by a continuous Rosin-Rammler distribution function, and inaccuracies that can occur in its subsequent discretization are demonstrated and discussed. An investigation on the resolution of the SD by discrete particle size classes (SC) indicates that 12 SC are required for an accuracy with a less than 1\% mean deviation from the solution with 18 SC. To increase the efficiency and economic viability of TEGs, research is performed on the materials on one hand and on the system connection on the other. In the latter case, the net output power of the cooling system plays a key role. At first glance, passive cooling seems preferable to active cooling because it does not affect the net electrical output power. However, as shown in the present review, the active cooling is to be preferred for net output power. The situation is similar in air and water-cooling. Even though air-cooling is easier to set up, the water-cooling should be preferred to achieve higher net output power. It is shown that microchannel cooling has similar hydraulic performance to conventional cooling and inserts increase the net output power of TEG. The previous measurements of other authors are taken as the basis for the problem formulation and validation, whereby the latter is performed by comparing the predicted sink velocities with those measured in an Owen tube. To enable a computational treatment, the measured shapes of the eggs are parametrized by idealizing them in terms of elementary geometric forms. As the egg shapes show a variation within each class, "mean" shapes are considered. The sink velocities are obtained through the computationally obtained drag coefficients. The latter are defined by means of steady-state calculations. Predicted sink velocities are compared with the measured ones. It is observed that the calculated values show a better agreement with the measurements, for ASC and TRI, compared to the theoretical sink values delivered by the Stokes theory. Although optical designs often have complex interactions with downstream image processing or analysis tasks, today's compound optics are designed in isolation from these interactions. Existing optical design tools aim to minimize optical aberrations, such as deviations from Gauss' linear model of optics, instead of application-specific losses, precluding joint optimization with hardware image signal processing (ISP) and highly parameterized neural network processing. In this article, we propose an optimization method for compound optics that lifts these limitations. We optimize entire lens systems jointly with hardware and software image processing pipelines, downstream neural network processing, and application-specific end-to-end losses. To this end, we propose a learned, differentiable forward model for compound optics and an alternating proximal optimization method that handles function compositions with highly varying parameter dimensions for optics, hardware ISP, and neural nets. Our method integrates seamlessly atop existing optical design tools, such as Zemax. We can thus assess our method across many camera system designs and end-to-end applications. We validate our approach in an automotive camera optics setting--together with hardware ISP post processing and detection--outperforming classical optics designs for automotive object detection and traffic light state detection. Typical metrics like intersection-over-union (IoU), precisionrecallcurves or average precision (AP) quantify the performance over a whole database of images, neglecting spatial performance variations. But as the optics of camera systems are spatially variable over the field of view, the performance of ML-based algorithms is also a function of space, which we show in simulation: A realistic objective lens based on a Cooke-triplet that exhibits typical optical aberrations like astigmatism and chromatic aberration, all variable over field, is modeled. The model is then applied to a subset of the BDD100k dataset with spatially-varying kernels. We then quantify local changes in the performance of the pre-trained Mask R-CNN algorithm. However, these tests often target acoustic parameters other than those typically relevant in music such as pitch, rhythm, amplitude, or timbre. To assess the expertise in perceiving and understanding room acoustical phenomena, a listening test battery was constructed to measure the perceptual sensitivity and cognitive abilities in the identification of rooms with different reverberation times and different spectral envelopes. Performance in these tests was related to data from the Goldsmiths Musical Sophistication Index, self-reported previous experience in music recording and acoustics, and academic knowledge on acoustics. The data from 102 participants show that sensory and cognitive abilities are both correlated significantly with musical training, analytic listening skills, recording experience, and academic knowledge on acoustics, whereas general interest in and engagement with music do not show any significant correlations. The regression models, using only significantly correlated criteria of musicality and professional expertise, explain only small to moderate amounts (11\%-28\%) of the variance in the "room acoustic listening expertise" across the different tasks of the battery. Mass fragmentation spectra are generally considered to be characteristic signatures of the chemical compound they originate from, yet the chemical structure itself usually cannot be easily deduced from the spectrum. Often, spectral similarity measures are used as a proxy for structural similarity but this approach is strongly limited by a generally poor correlation between both metrics. Here, we propose MS2DeepScore: a novel Siamese neural network to predict the structural similarity between two chemical structures solely based on their MS/MS fragmentation spectra. Using a cleaned dataset of > 100,000 mass spectra of about 15,000 unique known compounds, we trained MS2DeepScore to predict structural similarity scores for spectrum pairs with high accuracy. In addition, sampling different model varieties through Monte-Carlo Dropout is used to further improve the predictions and assess the model's prediction uncertainty. On 3600 spectra of 500 unseen compounds, MS2DeepScore is able to identify highly-reliable structural matches and to predict Tanimoto scores for pairs of molecules based on their fragment spectra with a root mean squared error of about 0.15. Furthermore, the prediction uncertainty estimate can be used to select a subset of predictions with a root mean squared error of about 0.1. Furthermore, we demonstrate that MS2DeepScore outperforms classical spectral similarity measures in retrieving chemically related compound pairs from large mass spectral datasets, thereby illustrating its potential for spectral library matching. Finally, MS2DeepScore can also be used to create chemically meaningful mass spectral embeddings that could be used to cluster large numbers of spectra. The present field study therefore investigated whether sound pressure level, reverberation time, and soundscape pleasantness can predict factors associated with overall restaurant quality. In total, 142 persons visiting 12 restaurants in Berlin rated relevant acoustical and non-acoustical factors associated with restaurant quality. Simultaneously, the A-weighted sound pressure level (LA,eq,15) was measured, and the reverberation time in the occupied state (T20,occ) was obtained by measurements performed in the unoccupied room and a subsequent calculation of the occupied condition according to DIN 18041. Results from linear mixed-effects models revealed that both the LA,eq,15 and T20,occ had a significant influence on soundscape pleasantness and eventfulness, whereby the effect of T20,occ was meditated by the LA,eq,15. Also, the LA,eq,15 as well as soundscape pleasantness were significant predictors of overall restaurant quality. A comprehensive structural equation model including both acoustical and non-acoustical factors, however, indicates that the effect of soundscape pleasantness on overall restaurant quality is mediated by the restaurant's atmosphere. Especially in the mobile application, e.g., in exhaust gas catalysis as a part of the gas line of an engine, there are loads due to vibrations and high gas velocities. It can be assumed that physical stress will lead to a loss of the catalytically active coating. The present contribution describes experimental setups and methods for a systematic and reproducible investigation of the main influences to the mass loss due to vibrational and fluid-mechanical stress caused by particle-free gas flows.}, language = {en} } @article{BehbehaniSteffens2021, author = {Behbehani, Sami and Steffens, Jochen}, title = {Musical DIAMONDS: The influence of situational classes and characteristics on music listening behavior}, series = {Psychology of Music}, volume = {49}, journal = {Psychology of Music}, number = {6}, publisher = {sage journals}, issn = {1741-3087}, doi = {10.1177/0305735620968910}, pages = {1532 -- 1545}, year = {2021}, language = {en} } @article{PfeiffelmannBenimJoos2021, author = {Pfeiffelmann, Bj{\"o}rn and Benim, Ali Cemal and Joos, Franz}, title = {Computational Investigation of Impingement Cooling of Thermoelectric Generators}, series = {Heat Transfer Engineering}, volume = {42}, journal = {Heat Transfer Engineering}, number = {3-4}, publisher = {Taylor \& Francis}, issn = {0145-7632}, doi = {10.1080/01457632.2019.1699296}, pages = {282 -- 295}, year = {2021}, language = {en} } @article{DasBhattacharyyaChattopadhyayetal.2021, author = {Das, Sampad Gobinda and Bhattacharyya, Suvanjan and Chattopadhyay, Himadri and Benim, Ali Cemal}, title = {Transport Phenomenon of Simultaneously Developing Flow and Heat Transfer in Twisted Sinusoidal Wavy Microchannel under Pulsating Inlet Flow Condition}, series = {Heat Transfer Engineering}, journal = {Heat Transfer Engineering}, publisher = {Taylor \& Francis}, doi = {10.1080/01457632.2021.1875166}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:due62-opus-27697}, pages = {1 -- 14}, year = {2021}, language = {en} } @article{Funk2021, author = {Funk, Lothar}, title = {{\"O}konomik der Pandemiepolitik}, series = {Wirtschaftsdienst}, volume = {101}, journal = {Wirtschaftsdienst}, number = {1}, publisher = {Springer Nature}, issn = {1613-978X}, doi = {10.1007/s10273-021-2812-x}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:hbz:due62-opus-26875}, pages = {6}, year = {2021}, language = {de} } @article{Manthe2021, author = {Manthe, Barbara}, title = {On the Pathway to Violence: West German Right-Wing Terrorism in the 1970s}, series = {Terrorism and Political Violence}, volume = {33}, journal = {Terrorism and Political Violence}, number = {1}, publisher = {Taylor \& Francis}, issn = {0954-6553}, doi = {10.1080/09546553.2018.1520701}, pages = {49 -- 70}, year = {2021}, language = {en} } @article{KuskeBorgmannWolfetal.2021, author = {Kuske, Silke and Borgmann, Sandra Olivia and Wolf, Florian and Bleck, Christian}, title = {Emotional Safety in the Context of Dementia: A Multiperspective Qualitative Study}, series = {Journal of Alzheimer's disease}, volume = {79}, journal = {Journal of Alzheimer's disease}, number = {1}, publisher = {IOS}, doi = {10.3233/jad-201110}, pages = {355 -- 375}, year = {2021}, language = {en} }
