Marketplace inventory orchestration : Improving accuracy vendor stock across multiple marketplaces to optimise multichannel fulfilment

Marktplatz-Bestandsorchestrierung : Verbesserung der Genauigkeit des Lieferantenbestands über mehrere Marktplatze hinweg zur Optimierung der Multichannel-Abwicklung

  • As multichannel sales are becoming more relevant for Electronic Commerce, the current moment shows a high potential for many vendors to reach a broad consumer base and have competitive placement in the market through multiple channels such as marketplaces. The purpose of this study is to explore the design requirements of the vendors and their validated representations for the development of a marketplace inventory orchestration solution. The contributing knowledge implies improving the accuracy of vendor stock distribution across multiple marketplaces and optimising multichannel fulfilment. A Design Science Research approach is applied to fill the research gap. The systematic literature review and semi-structured expert interviews were conducted to synthesise the earlier work in this area, and to conceptualise the derived requirements for the solution. Further, the author formulates a prototypical representation and investigates the five criteria in the usability testing to evaluate the designed solution in comparison to previous work procedures. The result of this research shows the outperformance of a marketplace inventory orchestration solution when compared to the other methods. Moreover, the findings contribute to design theory knowledge and enable the vendors to respond quickly to changing demand across different channels in order to adapt to the market situation. The study provides original and relevant guidance for researchers and practitioners on developing a marketplace inventory orchestration solution.
