TY - THES A1 - Anbarasan, Sarandev T1 - Optimizing EU returnable packaging network using PSI Global N2 - The research provides a holistic approach of optimizing Schaeffler’s returnable packaging network. The optimization was done with the help of network optimization software, PSI Global. The optimization is focused on reducing the carbon emissions and minimizing the transport costs. The algorithms center of gravity analysis and tactical vehicle routing are used to optimize the results and in deriving the required results. The derived results are then analyzed against various KPIs to filter out the most efficient solution. The most efficient solution gives the number of warehouses required for the network and the geographical locations of the network. The outcome of the network analysis resulted in 19% reduction in costs additionally, a 22% reduction of the distance travelled across the network was also achieved through the network optimization. Furthermore, the possibility of assigning a single warehouse for Eastern Europe was also analyzed from the cost perspective.
