TY - THES A1 - Pham, Tran Bao Chau T1 - Factors affecting consumers' purchase intention of electric cars in Germany N2 - This study focuses on the factors affecting the purchase intention towards electric cars in Germany, thereby making recommendations to improve the adoption rate of electric cars. This study only focuses on 100% battery electric car in specific, excluding other types of cars which are partly-electric such as hybrid electric cars, plug-in hybrid electric cars and autonomous electric vehicles. Based on a theoretical study on consumer behavior and an overview of the research situation, the study proposes an analytical framework for consumers' intention to buy electric cars in Germany. The analytical framework is built based on an integrated approach between the theories explaining behavioral intention including Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA), Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Unified Theory of Acceptance and The Use of Technology (UTAUT), Norm Activation Model (NAM) and research models by Jayasingh et al. (2021) and Manutworakit and Choocharukul (2022). Accordingly, the purchase intention towards electric cars in Germany is influenced by 8 factors including performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, price value, policy measures and environmental concerns. The study contributes to the theoretical framework for the purchase intention towards electric cars and proposes some suggestions for manufacturers and policy makers in promoting the adoption of electric cars in the German market.
