Today and in the future, leaders must handle new challenges and adapt constantly. To date, academic research has predominantly focused on specific leadership types during crisis and made suggestions for practitioners based on certain events of the past. This thesis aims to identify behaviors and skills that can be developed and implemented during any form of crisis. Based on a review of multidisciplinary literature, the analysis shows that the most effective leaders do not follow a specific approach and behavior, but rather incorporate many of at them at the same time and in different amounts. Through constant awareness of the current situation, leaders are able to proactively make the right decisions and successfully move forward during While the thesis does not provide a specific formula that ensures successful crisis leadership, it presents essential components and competencies leaders can develop and sharpen today to be in a constant state of readiness for future crises. This thesis provides behaviors and skills that can be developed and implemented during any form of crisis or change. It also shows how incorporating a vast variety of leadership approaches and behaviors is key to effectively lead through crisis and successfully adapt to an ever changing, digitized world.
