TY - THES A1 - Mostaquim, Md Ekramul T1 - Study on open source tool for robotic process automation (RPA) with respect to commercial software for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in logistics field N2 - The demand for robotic process automation (RPA) is growing every day across the globe due to its wide range of applications in the various areas such as finance, purchasing, logistics, production planning, warehousing, manufacturing, human resources, etc. Simultaneously, new and advanced features are constantly being introduced with RPA to facilitate the repetitive, rule-based, time-saving and productive tasks in these areas. For this reason, large companies are introducing RPA into their organization due to their allocated high investment in digitalization. However, this could be a challenge for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Because commercial RPA tools are associated with high costs. Investing in RPA is a big challenge for them. Considering this issue, the objective of this process was to conduct a comparative study between open-source RPA tool and the commercial RPA tool for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). Three different business case studies on processing both digitalized and non-digitalized documents in the field of logistics and supply chain management (SCM) were selected. In addition, RPA Python and Python traditional programming as open-source tools and UiPath as a commercial RPA tool were selected for this project to develop the solution of robotic process automation (RPA). Afterwards, a five-dimensions digital technology assessment for these tools as well as survey were conducted to determine applicability of the open-source tool for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
