For residual electricity supply, utilities in the industrial sector or flexible biogas plants may be suitable flexibility options. To describe and rate different technologies or utilities in terms of their ability to provide flexibility, a definition of flexibility and an innovative method to describe flexibility considering the grid requirements is elaborated. The method is based on a solid definition of flexibility indicators suitable for all technologies. For an increased flexibility, in many cases, it is reasonable to add supporting technologies like a storage to a utility or biogas combined heat and power (CHP). Such utility configurations can also be described with the elaborated method. The method can also make a valuable contribution to all distribution systems or utility system modellers as it can be taken as a basis for the modelling. In this study, the definition of flexibility indicators is described in detail and used on the example of a biogas CHP plant. The advent of automated driving will drive this trend even further. Today, accident investigation, as well as warranty claim analysis, need to take into consideration an analysis of the rapidly increasing proportion of software and security based implementations as part of modern vehicles, the so-called digital forensics. This paper evaluates the general feasibility of digital forensics on a state-of-the-art vehicle. To do so, we analyzed current digital forensics techniques on a state-of-the-art vehicle to constitute gaps in the automotive forensics process used on in-vehicle systems. We present a general process for automotive forensics to close existing gaps and implemented it on a state-of-the-art vehicle in an in-vehicle device manipulation scenario. The implementation uses the on-board diagnostics interface, the diagnostics over internet protocol, as well as the unified diagnostic services for communication. Our implementation requires automotive Ethernet at the diagnostic interface. Our research shows future directions for efficient automotive forensic as well as the exemplary feasibility of automotive forensic analysis on state-of-the-art vehicles without the need for additional invehicle components such as intrusion detection systems or event data recorders. Artificial Intelligence (AI), is undisputed at the present time. This is not only due to AI successes in research but, more prominently, its use in day-to-day practice. In 2014, we started a series of annual workshops at the Leibniz Zentrum für Informatik, Schloss Dagstuhl, Germany, initially focussing on Corporate Semantic Web and later widening the scope to Applied Machine Intelligence. This article presents a number of AI applications from various application domains, including medicine, industrial manufacturing and the insurance sector. Best practices, current trends, possibilities and limitations of new AI approaches for developing AI applications are also presented. Focus is put on the areas of natural language processing, ontologies and machine learning. The article concludes with a summary and outlook.
