    <title language="eng">Life Cycle Rating: an approach to support the decision-making process of manufacturing systems</title>
    <abstract language="eng">The increasing use of the life cycle costing method in the production industry shows the need of cost reduction on a holistic basis. A monetary product life cycle evaluation for different alternatives supports the decision-making process beyond the initial purchase price. Beside the cost perspective, the reduction of CO2 emissions also becomes an important goal for the industry. Therefore, the life cycle assessment is a concept to evaluate the environmental impact along the product life cycle. In conclusion, the cost and environmental approaches deal with the consequences of decisions. Thus, the production planning department has the task to evaluate both dimensions for manufacturing equipment. However, the implementation of these life cycle approaches is still moving forward slowly due to lack of both information at the decision point, and a practical method to support decision-making. This paper shows a framework for the life cycle rating for manufacturing equipment within the planning phase. The framework supports the decision-making process regarding economic and environmental consequences.</abstract>

    <title language="eng">A method for forecasting the running costs of manufacturing technologies in automotive production during the early planning phase</title>
    <abstract language="eng">The running costs of production sites are a decisive factor in the overheads of automotive production. Because of this, it is important for many operators to decrease those costs in a sustainable way. Therefore, they try to reduce both the energy consumption costs of production systems, as well as their maintenance costs. However, most parts of the running costs are already determined during the very early phases of the product creation process. The approach in this paper shows how the decision for a specific manufacturing technology influences the factory costs. It is necessary to determine the life-cycle costs with regard to the manufacturing technology. Therefore, deep knowledge about the process itself and the support processes is required. This paper shows how cost relevant parameters can be identified and introduces a method to determine the prospective costs for maintenance and energy consumption in advance.</abstract>
