<title language="eng">Influence of sustainable leadership strategies on the performance of multicultural teams in the medical field</title>
This study sought to investigate the influence of sustainable leadership strategies on the performance of multicultural teams in the medical field. The study specifically aimed: to identify how cultural diversity affects the leadership of multicultural teams; to establish how linguistic barriers affect the leadership of multicultural teams and to examine the effects of technology on leadership of multicultural teams. The study was anchored on contingency theory of leadership, theory of heterogeneity, linguistic theory, technology acceptance model and cultural dimension theory. This study adopted a descriptive research design and was conducted in Bavaria. The target population comprised of employees working in multicultural teams in these hospitals where a sample size of 50 respondents were selected. Data was collected using a questionnaire that was administered through LamaPoll. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics and presented in percentages and frequencies. The study found that the hospitals appointed fewer employees from different cultures to be team leaders and that the hospitals have embraced multicultural teams. It was also established that language barrier is the biggest challenge that has been experienced by multicultural teams and that most of the multicultural teams do not receive intercultural training at their workplace. The study concluded that employees from other cultures positively contribute to team performance. The study recommends that hospitals should appoint team leaders from various cultural backgrounds to head the multicultural departments so as to improve their performance. It is also recommended that the management of the various hospitals should have a yearly training calendar that should tackle all intercultural dimensions and train the employees in multicultural teams so as to improve team cohesion. It is also recommended that the hospitals should acquire appropriate technology that can enable the employees to translate the work of their colleagues for better performance.
