Despite the presence of several national and global initiatives, progress in implementation remains slow. To address this challenge, off-grid system technologies, notably photovoltaic systems combined with second-life lithium-ion batteries (SLBs), have gained traction in recent years. This case study presents a comprehensive socio-economic factor where in such an off-grid hybrid system successfully electrifies community in the Amazonas Basin, supplying an average of 802 kWh of energy per day to vital infrastructural components including community centers, schools, households, and local industries. Furthermore, this project proposes insight into the potential of SLBs as a second-life scenario, aligning with the expanding global electromobility landscape and the prospect of reusing LIBs. Through economic and ecological evaluations, it demonstrates the viability of SLBs over conventional diesel generators, with health considerations integrated into the assessment process. Technical feasibility, economic viability, and environmental impact of SLBs are thoroughly examined, alongside discussions on various SLB applications and the requisite assessment and testing procedures. Despite the environmental benefits and revenue-generating potential associated with SLBs, challenges such as the absence of standardized assessment methodologies and limited research pose hurdles. Consequently, the thesis supports continued research efforts to enhance understanding and standardize assessment protocols, facilitating broader adoption of SLBs in rural electrification endeavors. In this thesis, we focus on the safety aspect by examining the ISO 26262 safety standards, their components, applications, and the various methods available in the industry to ensure freedom from interference between the different software components in the vehicle's ECU. We then delve deeper into the concept of the mixed-criticality approach and the required hardware components needed to implement this concept. The MPU is a critical hardware component that safeguards against unintended or unauthorized access to memory, thereby preventing potential system failures and ensuring the integrity of data. This research explores the design principles of an MPU, emphasizing its role in mitigating risks identified in the ISO 26262 safety lifecycle. A detailed examination of the MPU's architecture is provided, including the segmentation of memory regions, the configuration of access permissions, and the enforcement of protection rules at runtime. However, underdeveloped and most developed countries are transitioning towards renewable energy. Furthermore, integrating renewable energy sources is one of the challenging tasks in terms of power supply and demand, especially for isolated regions. This thesis presents a comprehensive simulation study to optimise the operation of a power supply island grid with power system stability. For the island grid concept, the microgrid structure is used as an island-mode microgrid or island microgrid. The study focuses on incorporating biogas into a power supply to island loads and its impact on island grid performance. Based on the current configuration, make this grid-connected system into an island system and design and develop the grid as per the island grid. After developing the island, it is required to define the operation condition of the island grid. After this, the main focus is to analyse the performance from the various simulation studies to know more about power flow direction to component loadings, protections during normal operation conditions, and dynamic or transient simulation studies and studies that can help to identify the power system stability criteria. Furthermore, the black start operation is one of the most essential parts of the island grid for stable operation. Through detailed modelling and simulation, this research investigates the stability in steady operation and dynamic or transient time operation of island grids under various operating conditions and load scenarios. Lastly, the AutoCAD tool is used for the base SLD creation, and the Excel tool is used for data analysis: this analysed data and SLD required for model development in DIgSILENT PowerFactory and from all the simulation studies with different case scenarios, it helps to improve stability of operation of island grid. To mitigate this risk, cylindrical cells are equipped with a Current Interrupt Device (CID), which functions as a pressure relief valve, disconnecting the electrical circuit within the cell when internal pressure rises. However, this disconnection causes the cell to suddenly become highly resistant, posing a significant issue in series-connected cells. In such configurations, a portion or even the entire system voltage may drop across the disconnected cell, substantially increasing the likelihood of an electric arc. This arc could ignite any escaping flammable gases, leading to catastrophic failures. In a series of tests conducted on three different cell chemistries—NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt), NCA (Nickel Cobalt Aluminum), and LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate)—it was found that the safe operation of the CID cannot be guaranteed for system voltages exceeding 120 V. Although comparative tests at double the nominal cell voltage did not exhibit the same behavior, these findings suggest that current safety standards, which recommend testing at double the nominal voltage, may not adequately address the risks involved. The tests further revealed that series connections of cells with CIDs are inherently dangerous, as, in the worst-case scenario, the entire system voltage can be concentrated across a single cell, leading to potential system failure.}, language = {en} } @article{WachSchwarzvonHeld2024, author = {Wach, Bernhard and Schwarz, Jan Oliver and von Held, Felix}, title = {Corporate foresight for the benefit of corporates' innovation climate}, volume = {7}, pages = {e195}, journal = {Futures \& Foresight Science}, number = {1}, publisher = {Wiley}, address = {Hoboken}, issn = {2573-5152}, doi = {https://doi.org/10.1002/ffo2.195}, year = {2024}, abstract = {Corporate foresight (CF) can be considered a future-oriented capability that incorporates perceiving and prospecting. Overheating during high-demand driving can shorten the lifespan and cause failures in the system; therefore, to address this issue, various models evaluate the thermal behavior of inverter components. The lifespan evaluation of the inverter components' temperature is currently calculated using thermal Foster networks. This data is used for the design of components and tests. However, thermal Foster networks are inadequate for accurately mapping interactions between components. A step function is used to train these networks, making it difficult to determine real component loads and explicitly failing to train for correct thermal decay behavior. Errors in predicting temperature data can result in design flaws and inaccurate validation, which can potentially lead to quality issues in the field or increased validation costs. While node models would be a more effective solution, however fitting temperature data is too complex. Alternatively, 3D models offer the highest accuracy, but they are too slow for practical use in lifespan temperature prediction. To solve the problem, we plan to use deep learning, especially a Nonlinear Autoregressive network with Exogenous Inputs (NARX) which is a subclass of Recurrent Neural Networks. RNNs are ideal for time-series data and sequential problems, which makes them perfect for predicting the thermal behavior of inverter components in electric vehicles. Deep learning's ability to learn from data can address various environmental conditions, offering innovative thermal modeling and reliability solutions. Keeping a paper diary is the standard for patients to track their headache days, see if their treatment is working, and for doctors to diagnose the condition. Lately, electronic headache diaries in the form of mobile applications (apps) have become more popular. They promise a faster way to put in the data, export reports and are always at hand. There are no standard solutions, and the commercially available apps vary in their design and the data they collect. This thesis explores the relationship between user personality traits and individual preferences in AV behavior customization, with a focus on improving human-AV interaction. The study aimed to address the following problem: How do personality traits, particularly Openness and Neuroticism, influence user interaction with customizable AV systems, and can this information be used to predict and enhance user preferences? To approach this question, an experiment was conducted with 27 participants. The methodology involved, assessing participants' personality traits using the Big Five model, allowing participants to customize AV driving parameters through a Python-based user interface, collecting data on user preferences for AV behavior, including acceleration, deceleration, lane positioning, overtaking, steering characteristics, speed, and lateral acceleration, and in the final stage developing a supervised machine learning model trained on the collected data. The solution involved creating a predictive model capable of forecasting user preferences for AV behavior based on personality traits. To evaluate the effectiveness of this approach, the study measured user experience, acceptance, and trust using standardized questionnaires: the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ-s), Acceptance Scale (de Waard), and a trust questionnaire. Results indicated subtle yet significant differences in user preferences and interactions based on personality traits. The implications of these findings suggest that tailored AV experiences can notably improve user satisfaction and trust. This research contributes valuable insights to the field of human-AV interaction and offers practical guidance for automotive designers and engineers working to enhance user experiences in autonomous vehicles. The development of supply chain and logistics technologies is mostly the reason. Effective supply chain and logistics management are essential for international e-commerce retailers and SMEs to fulfill high customer expectations and stay competitive in today's global economy, in addition, the impact of SC and logistics technologies on customer satisfaction is not clear in international e-commerce retailing context. The study used a review of the literature and an electronic customer survey, to identify critical aspects that affect customer satisfaction and offer suggestions to international e-commerce retailers for supporting their supply chain and logistical operations. By examining the importance of technologies such as Blockchain, RPA, DT, UAVs, and AI for customers in international e-commerce retailing and how they affect customer satisfaction, this study aims to close this gap. The primary findings of this study, which used a quantitative research methodology, indicate that international fast shipping is the most valuable service for customers and that international retailers should invest in RPA, Blockchain, and cloud computing technologies. Customers are not anymore satisfied with old ways of brands delivering a product, they expect personalized and seamless experience with the brand anytime and anywhere. Hence, companies must shift their approach towards customer-focus solutions and direct to consumer business to satisfy customer needs in the digital age. To reach this, organizations tend to shift towards omnichannel marketing that means implementation of online and offline marketing channels in brick-and-mortar stores with a focus on seamless customer experience that is not breaking down neither online nor offline. To prove or disprove this statement the case study of Under Armour sportswear brand in Germany was used. Currently this brand significantly stays behind its competitors - Adidas and Nike, who are leading sportswear market in Germany. The main goal was to investigate if this position on the market related with absence of omnichannel strategy. To define it author examined exciting scientific literature about omnichannel approach used by retailers, the influence of it on customer experience and Data analyses from research institution such as Statista and provided survey Data from Under Armour. To examine more about customer preferences in purchasing sportswear apparel and awareness about Under Armour brand in Germany, empirical research was conducted, and analyzed with SPSS software. In SSA, rural electrification is challenging because of economic, infrastructural and geographical reasons. Namibia's sustainable energy policy complies with global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 7, which aims to provide access to affordable and reliable modern energy for all. This policy seeks to facilitate mini-grid deployment and decentralized power systems as practical solutions for electrifying rural communities. Even though there has been an increase in the number of connections made through mini-grids that have contributed to rural electrification in recent years, these interventions often become unsustainable with time. It allows networks to discover paths to one another on a global scale. While individual BGP participants know how to reach every other participant, there is no way to know the AS path between two arbitrary networks. Network operators however have a need to know these paths to, for example, deploy security mechanisms and optimize peer to peer applications. Over the years, many heuristics have been developed to predict these inter-domain paths. However, all of them still fall short of being truly reliable, which justifies further research in the field. In this thesis, we develop a new AS path prediction system BGPsyche. To our knowledge, it is the first of its kind to be based on deep learning. BGPsyche can find the correct path in the set of its top three selected candidates 85 \% of the time and selects the correct path as its top candidate with an accuracy of 66 \%. This makes it about as accurate as most of its competition, with only one system yielding a superior accuracy. Because of the easy extensibility of BGPsyche, we think that there is still more potential in our approach. In building BGPsyche, we also analyze many features of ASes, links and paths from the perspective of a machine learning application, which may serve as a basis for future research. These comprise transportation costs, costs for setting up and operating CDs, inventory holding and purchasing costs. We present a novel mixed integer program (MIP) for optimizing the number and locations of CDs within the supply network as well as the selection of flow type (cross-docking or direct-to-warehouse shipping) and the associated delivery pattern tailored to a specific supplier. A numerical study shows that the original problem is difficult to solve for real-sized instances using a standard MIP solver. We therefore develop a hierarchical decomposition approach that achieves cost-efficient results compared to heuristic approaches, which assume linear transportation costs. In order to demonstrate the model's applicability to real-life instances and to gain further practical insights we conducted a case study using data from a major European retail company. In this study we found that more than 6\% of related logistics costs can be saved by setting up CDs within the supply network. This study reflects the interaction between deep learning, specialized hardware accelerators, and advanced numerical representations, specifically Posits, in the context of CenterFusion - a middle-fusion method for fusing radar and camera data designed for autonomous vehicles. In order to optimize the CenterFusion for embedded systems, a parameter quantization and hardware inference technique using Posit numbers was developed, named Posits4Torch and Posits4TorcHA. Posit is a type of floating-point numerical representation and arithmetic whose fields have variable sizes, resulting in non-uniform precision. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the reduction in memory usage, processing speed gain, and degradation of CenterFusion performance, when subjected to Posit quantization, in terms of the average errors and the NuScenes Detection Score. The results demonstrate that the inference errors for both the Deep PeNSieve-emulated model on an AMD EPYC 7413 24-Core CPU and the Posits4TorcHA-based model on an AMD Kria KV260 Vision Starter Kit FPGA were identical. The FPGA-based model's inference time of 3,49 seconds was nearly 1000 times lower than the 3194,69 seconds of the CPU model but 300 times higher than the PyTorch GPU model, which ran on a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090. Moreover, FPGA implementation metrics for the 2D 8x8 Posit MAC Unit Array on the AMD Kria KV260 showed a power consumption of 2,939 W, 3,033 W, and 3,090 W for Posit precisions of 6, 7, and 8 bits, respectively, highlighting the approach's resource efficiency. When quantizing CenterFusion's regression heads, an 8-bit Posit precision for Posit-as-Storage (PaS) resulted in a degradation in the Mean Average Precision (mAP) and NuScenes Detection Score (NDS) of, respectively, 0,7\% and 0,5\%. For Posit-as-Arithmetic (PaA) on the FPGA, certain metrics like Mean Average Velocity Error (mAVE) and Mean Average Translation Error (mATE) were more affected, with 8-bit precision leading to degradations in mAP and NDS by 9,8\% and 7,7\%, respectively, which can be improved by training the model with a higher Posit precision and subsequently quantizing to a lower Posit precision using Posits4Torch. This approach presents a promising perspective for optimizing neural network performance in perception and sensor fusion systems for autonomous vehicles. By improving efficiency using lower bit-widths without compromising too much accuracy, this research contributes to the development of more energy-efficient high-speed AI solutions for autonomous vehicle's embedded systems, demonstrating ongoing progress in the field of autonomous driving technology. While there is a shift in individual transport towards battery-electric applications, the maritime and energy production sectors rely on a high energy density and time- and location-independent availability of the energy carrier. Therefore, large-bore engines powered by renewable fuels have the potential to shift the industry towards a climate-neutral operation. Besides the emission of greenhouse gases, internal combustion engines are known for emitting pollutant emissions, harming human health and the environment. Research on particle emissions of natural gas and hydrogen engines has mainly focused on automotive and heavy-duty applications. Hence, this study investigates particle emissions of a large-bore single-cylinder research engine powered by hydrogen, compared to natural gas, for the first time. Investigations on particles with a diameter as low as 10 nm showed particle numbers of 104 to 105 \# cm-3, unexpectedly achieving slightly higher particle numbers in hydrogen than in natural gas operations. However, the identification of MFs has a known low inter-rater agreement. Deep learning algorithms can standardize this task, but they require large amounts of annotated data for training and validation. Furthermore, label noise introduced during the annotation process may impede the algorithm's performance. Unlike H\&E, the mitosis-specific antibody phospho-histone H3 (PHH3) specifically highlights MFs. Counting MFs on slides stained against PHH3 leads to higher agreement among raters and has therefore recently been used as a ground truth for the annotation of MFs in H\&E. However, as PHH3 facilitates the recognition of cells indistinguishable from H\&E stain alone, the use of this ground truth could potentially introduce noise into the H\&E-related dataset, impacting model performance. This study analyzes the impact of PHH3-assisted MF annotation on inter-rater reliability and object level agreement through an extensive multi-rater experiment. We found that the annotators' object-level agreement increased when using PHH3-assisted labeling. Subsequently, MF detectors were evaluated on the resulting datasets to investigate the influence of PHH3-assisted labeling on the models' performance. Additionally, a novel dual-stain MF detector was developed to investigate the interpretation-shift of PHH3-assisted labels used in H\&E, which clearly outperformed single-stain detectors. However, the PHH3-assisted labels did not have a positive effect on solely H\&E-based models. The high performance of our dual-input detector reveals an information mismatch between the H\&E and PHH3-stained images as the cause of this effect.}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{HeinlReichlStreich2024, author = {Heinl, Patrizia and Reichl-Streich, Andrea-Julia}, title = {Securing the Lifeline: Identifying AI Security Threats in Healthcare Supply Chains}, booktitle = {Proceedings of the 14th SPRING graduate workshop of the special interest group Security - Intrusion Detection and Response (SIDAR) of the German Informatics Society (GI)}, editor = {Ohm, Marc}, publisher = {Gesellschaft f{\"u}r Informatik}, address = {Bonn}, issn = {2190-846X}, url = {https://www.google.com/url?sa=t\&source=web\&rct=j\&opi=89978449\&url=https://fg-sidar.gi.de/fileadmin/FG/SIDAR/Reports/SIDAR-Report-SR-2024-01.pdf\&ved=2ahUKEwi395zCgYiIAxVx_rsIHQ1JOGsQFnoECBMQAQ\&usg=AOvVaw1nUh1Mn_Aqch1IW0fKoEHi}, pages = {8 -- 10}, year = {2024}, language = {en} } @thesis{Ravichandran2024, author = {Ravichandran, Sai Sharan}, title = {Transparent rating of multivariate time series classification using explainable AI}, publisher = {Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt}, address = {Ingolstadt}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:bvb:573-50106}, pages = {XI, 76, IV}, school = {Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt}, year = {2024}, abstract = {Validation of virtual simulation models, particularly for crash tests and occupant safety, is crucial. Electrochemical techniques, including the potentiodynamic polarization test and galvanostatic hydrogen loading, are employed to characterize the corrosion behaviour of steel samples subjected to cathodic polarization. Additionally, mechanical testing methods such as tensile testing on quenched and tempered C45 steel and C67S steel (DIN 471), hardness measurement before and after hydrogen loading, the impact of hydrogen on fracture properties, ductility, and yield strength, and fractographic analysis using a stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of the polarized steel specimens were carried out. To take advantage of adhesive bonding in reducing weight and cost, there are numerous of research done on this topic and will be continued in this thesis. A major obstacle faced while investigating complicated adhesive bonding design is analyzing the stress distribution. And since FEM is the more effective method in doing the job, modeling the adhesive joint is another challenging task to resolve. To further optimize adhesive bonding, a series of parameter study on different factors are conducted. The important parameters are the stiffness of the adherends, which can be still subdivided into the splice plate and the substrate, tolerance on manufacturing errors, which is composed of shifted bonding position and altering bonding gap width, and topological variants, where the features of filling the bonding gap, extruding a spew fillet on the end of the bonding overlap, and the different geometries of the bonding component. A demonstrative model is built to have a schematical overview on a damaged bonding component as the last parameter. From these, it is then determined the stress distribution in the adhesive is influenced by the geometry, where the stress concentration shifted from the fronter area by the gap to the end of the overlap as the geometry changed from triangle to trapezoid and further to rectangle. And the other discovery is that the stress value in the adhesive is reduced by stiffer adherend, adhesive spew fillet, and gap filling. Another important information gained is that the manufacturing errors may be deteriorating the adhesive joint but not distinctive at only few millimeters. An acceptable derivation is at around 2 to 3 mm. Last but not least, to achieve the damage tolerating adhesive joint, the intact bonding component should withstand a two-times-higher stress, when damage occurred. With a sufficient structural adhesively bonded joint, the cost and weight of the structure can be cut down significantly. On a unitary sampling joint, it is indicated that the cost and weight of adhesive joint is half of riveting joint. Promising evidence is shown by the results and thus this concept should be further developed, to facilitate the improvement in aircraft structure constructions.}, language = {en} } @thesis{Kocabas2024, author = {Kocabas, G{\"o}k{\c{c}}e}, title = {Evaluating customer satisfaction with AI-enhanced CRM systems}, subtitle = {a comparative analysis of user perceptions}, publisher = {Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt}, address = {Ingolstadt}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:bvb:573-49812}, pages = {vii, 66}, school = {Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt}, year = {2024}, abstract = {Today, Artificial Intelligence has started to play an important role in every aspect of our lives. Based on the current state of the art in research and pre-standardization of V2X communications, we enhance the protocol design for both services and assess their performance by discrete-event simulations in highway and city scenarios. The first part of this chapter addresses the performance improvement of sensor data sharing by two complementary strategies. The shared sensor data are adapted to the available resources on the used channel. Furthermore, the redundancy of the transmitted information is reduced to lower the load on the wireless channel, whereas several approaches are proposed and assessed. The second part of the chapter analyzes cooperative maneuver coordination protocols. We propose a distributed approach based on the explicit exchange of V2X messages, which introduces priorities in maneuver coordination and studies several communication patterns for the negotiation and coordination of maneuvers among two and more vehicles. The results demonstrate the potential of V2X communications for automated driving, showcase several approaches for enhancements of sensor data sharing and maneuver coordination, and indicate the performance of these enhancements.}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{SchmittReumSummetal.2024, author = {Schmitt, David and Reum, Tobias and Summ, Thorsten and Trinkl, Christoph and Schrag, Tobias}, title = {Potential of a Long-Term Predictive Controller for Managing Energy Storages to Reduce the Electric Grid-Load of an Air-Source Heat Pump}, booktitle = {Proceedings of the International Renewable Energy Storage and Systems Conference (IRES 2023)}, editor = {Droege, Peter and Quint, Lelia}, publisher = {Atlantis Press}, address = {Dordrecht}, isbn = {978-94-6463-455-6}, doi = {https://doi.org/10.2991/978-94-6463-455-6_21}, pages = {205 -- 211}, year = {2024}, abstract = {Electrifying the domestic heating sector is mandatory to decarbonize the buildings sector but leads to additional peak loads in the public grid. Air-source heat pumps the mostly used technology in this regard even though, they suffer from lower efficiency during times of high heat demands. The usage of energy storages and predictive controllers enables operation shifting and hence offers potential to decrease the peak loads in the electric grid. This potential can be increased by using a longer prediction horizon as extended operation shifting can be performed. In this contribution, a methodology to derive the theoretical potential on the grid peak load reduction of such a long-term predictive controller is introduced. The electric load profile of an air-source heat pump in a typical German single-family home was generated based on different weather data scenarios for the city of Ingolstadt. Based on the profile the dependency between peak load reduction and required storage capacity was identified. In the case study a reduction of the peak load from 21 - 31\% for an unrenovated building was achieved using a 500 L buffer storage. Further investigation needs to be done to derive a more realistic potential for renovated or new buildings.}, language = {en} }
