    <title language="eng">Towards a Sustainable Society</title>
    <abstract language="eng">This is the second edition of SIOB's Foot Print Magazine, comprising insights from students’ perspectives on Sustainable Development, based on their studies of Sustainable Industrial Operations and Business (SIOB) at Campus Dingolfing of the University of Applied Sciences in Landshut, Germany. The term Sustainable Development and its first holistic definition in 1986 as "development that meets the needs of present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs" in the Brundtland report seems to have lost importance these days in the political debate. The finding back then was, that sustainable development "contains within it two key concepts: the concept of 'needs', in particular the essential needs of the world’s poor ... and the idea of the limitations imposed by the state of technology and social organization on the environment’s ability to [regenerate itself]", which led to further research on Global Change. Global Change is more than just Climate Change, since our current way of living and operating industries not only alters our atmosphere at an increasing pace, but among others also the land use and living species. These developments and processes, as well as specifically the solutions towards sustainability for industry are at the core of the new SIOB study program.&#13;

Section A evolves around Taking Responsible Action and considers "Responsible Consumption and Production" in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goal n°12 of the United Nations. It looks at alternative food sources for humans and livestock, discusses water management and resource efficiency in computing, and dives into alternative materials and recycling for automobiles.&#13;

Section B presents Innovative Ideas in accordance with the UN Goal n°9 "Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure". The impact of 3D printing and recycling of concrete on the construction industry and of quantum computing and bitcoin on the energy sector is discussed. Trends in technology such as augmented reality, electric planes and a deep dive into smart factories and their influence on the industrial sector as well as our everyday lives are presented.&#13;

Section C is dedicated to Sustainable Communities and, thus, to UN Goal n°11 "Sustainable Cities and Communities" raising awareness about practices that enable us to reduce our carbon foot print in cities and combat the already visible effects of climate change. Topics evolve around green roof technologies, vertical gardens and carbon neutral housing for greener, cooler and healthier cities. The section takes a look into smart homes and discusses the broader issue of sustainable tourism focusing on projects in Kenya.</abstract>
