The method focuses on urban scenarios where these pedestrian movements are common and may result in critical situations. Pedestrian intentions are determined by means of an image-based motion contour histogram of oriented gradient descriptor. It is based on silhouettes gathered from stereo data and does not require any compensation of appearance changes resulting from the ego-motion of a vehicle. Nevertheless, it covers small movements indicating a pedestrian’s intention. A linear support vector machine with probabilistic estimates is used for classification. We evaluated our method on the publicly available Daimler Pedestrian Path Prediction Benchmark Dataset containing detections of a stateof-the-art pedestrian detector. We detect a pedestrian’s stopping intention from 125 ms to 500 ms before standing still within an accuracy range of 80% to 100%. Bending in is detected from 320 ms to 570 ms after a first visible lateral body movement in the same accuracy range. The intention to cross the road from standing still (starting) is detected 250 ms after the first visible motion and, therefore, within the first step with an accuracy of 100%. The approach uses camera based head tracking as input data to predict a continuous trajectory for a 2.5 s future time horizon. Training and test is performed using 1075 recorded tracks of uninstructed pedestrians in common public traffic situations, including many challenging scenarios like starting, stopping and bending in. The neural network approach has the ability to handle these scenes by learning a single implicit movement model independent of a specific motion type. The polynomial approximation provides an extraction of the principal information of the underlying time series in the form of the polynomial coefficients, high independence of input data, e.g., sample rate, and additional noise resistance. Our test results show 24% lower prediction errors for starting scenes and 29% for stopping scenes in comparison to a constant velocity Kalman filter. For the acceptance of IT, whether active or passive, the central role of trust and confidence in the IT systems’ context has to be emphasized. The “Case-based Evidence” estimation is based on drawing conclusions from isomorphic “analogy sources” – the “evidences” – to the given case. By a series of expert interviews, the synoptic conclusions – having been made – are evaluated. Some recent example projects show the successful application of the method of “Case-based Evidences” as a Middle Range Theory. Software Engineering is a very complex theme requiring various technical and nontechnical skills. At the beginning of a research project we asked which competencies our graduates need in their everyday working life. In this paper the course survey of graduates is described to gain information about necessary expert and interdisciplinary competencies. First of all, the conceptual approach and the research goals are explained. In a second step the research design in detail will be illustrated. Afterwards analyses take place considering this survey in order to get information concerning competencies and to evaluate the course retrospectively considering this expertise. Furthermore it is required to determine whether improvements or deteriorations in chronological sequence through the semesters can be detected. The students' attitude towards this course is not that positive, so also the survey includes this bias. But, as the learning and teaching arrangement shall be designed more attractive for students as well, first their evaluation has to be analysed. The last chapter provides a summary and an outlook how the results of this survey will be used to improve the quality of teaching. All of this combined is intended to contribute towards the development of a Competency Profile and in a wider context to reach the top goal of the project, to obtain recommendations for teaching and learning methods to improve the quality of teaching. Consequently new technical approaches for X-ray mirror production are under development. In Europe the technical baseline for the planned X-ray observatory ATHENA is the radical new approach of silicon pore optics. NASA´s recently launched NuSTAR mission uses segmented mirrors shells made from thin bended glasses, successfully demonstrating the feasibility of the glass forming technology for X-ray mirrors. For risk mitigation also in Europe the hot slumping of thin glasses is being developed as an alternative technology for lightweight X-ray telescopes. The high precision mirror manufacturing requires challenging technical developments; several design trades and trend-setting decisions need to be made and are discussed within this paper. Some new technical and economic aspects of the intended glass mirror serial production are also studied within the recently started interdisciplinary project INTRAAST, an acronym for “industry transfer of astronomical mirror technologies”. The goal of the project, embedded in a cooperation of the Max-Planck-Institute for extraterrestrial Physics and the University of Applied Sciences Aschaffenburg, is to master the challenge of producing thin mirror shells for future X-ray telescopes. As a first project task the development of low stress coatings for thin glass mirror substrates have been started, the corresponding technical approach and first results are presented. The goal of the study is to indicate which die-attach technique is more environmentally friendly. This is important in order to design future electronics more environmentally friendly. Processing covers the manufacturing of the respective pastes, application of pastes, and mounting as well as the subsequent sintering or soldering, including cleaning of the soldered parts. The last step in the processing is a wire bonding process. The environmental impacts are expressed in CO2-equivalents and ReCiPe points and different variants are discussed: comparisons are made between considered pastes and between a soldered and a sintered power module, including consideration of lifetime. Concerning sintering, the influence of using recycled silver is analyzed more closely. The types of stages included in this life cycle assessment best fit a cradle-to-gate assessment, because usage, recycling, and disposal are not included. The software used is OpenLCA version 1.3.3, created by GreenDelta, and the database used is Ecoinvent version 2.2. In order to fill data gaps, electronics manufacturing companies were contacted, and our own calculations and measurements were applied. The consideration of the wet film thicknesses of the soldering system and sintering system, respectively, results in very similar CO2-equivalent emissions for sinter paste and solder paste. Comparing the soldered power module to the sintered one shows minor to significant differences between the two systems which could easily be changed when changing circumstances and assumptions. But when considering the respective lifetimes of the joining technologies, sintering technology is clearly preferable to the conventional soldering technology. Using solely recycled silver for manufacturing of silver sinter paste reduces the CO2-equivalent emissions of one sintered power module by roughly 40%. The results clearly show the dependence of outcomes on the initial settings. Consideration of lifetime has an enormous impact on the comparison of soldering technology to sintering technology. But the benefit of this life extension through the use of sintering technology is only useful when a long lifetime is required. As with any other NDT method, the requirement for its performance and detection capabilities to be assessed increases as it is used more frequently. Simultaneously, it is becoming important for users to be able to quantitatively measure and compare the suitability of systems available on the market for their own applications. This probability of detection (POD) method makes it possible to create application-specific POD curves for CT systems using a specially-developed POD test specimen. Within the context of this study, a micro-CT scanner with an accelerating voltage of 225 kV and specimens of stainless steel with thicknesses of 1,050 and 2,050 μm was assessed as an example. When developing this method, special value was placed on reproducibility and universal applicability. Here, the resolution can evolve over time or frequency, respectively, by using different windows for the different sampling positions in the time or frequency domain (Multiwindow-frames). This adaptivity in the time-frequency plane leads to a sparser signal representation. In terms of audio inpainting, i.e., filling in blanks of a depleted audio signal, sparsity in some representation space profoundly influences the quality of the reconstructed signal. We will compare this quality using different nonstationary Gabor transforms and the regular Gabor transform with different types of audio signals. Abandoning the idea of restricting to tight frame-like expansions, with respect to systems arising from a single template function, one is led to the concept of resolutions of the identity, with respect to more general systems than the usual rank-one expansions of the identity. In this study, we will investigate various notions of possible generalizations of optimality criterions for rank-M frames and corresponding multipliers. Explicitly, we will lay stress on continuous M-frames, arising from irreducible group representations of locally compact groups, have a look at its connection to time-frequency analysis and comment on adequate notions of optimality. The teaching of Software Engineering is attempted by a new didactic approach to convey a deeper understanding of the complexity and the processes of Software Engineering in the context of the course. The approach complements the classical ex-cathedra lecture with a seminar and a project phase, whereby the direct application of theoretical knowledge is achieved in real-world situations. In addition to the consolidation of factual knowledge, transferable skills, such as presentation, communication and teamwork skills, can be encouraged. The approach focuses on self-studying as well as collaborative learning. The knowledge gained from team working is multiplied by the Wiki and spread over the whole semester. Thus its university education is even more challenging; in particular in the course of study in mechatronics, in which various subjects are integrated and combined. Due to our experience the students are low motivated concerning the subject "Software Engineering", because of the mixture of technical and interdisciplinary competencies, therefore the subject matter is difficult to teach. In this paper, we share some experiences, as we have tried to activate students and therefore attempt to deepen their understanding of Software Engineering and its processes. As a central tool of the seminar phase, which is used to combine active and passive learning styles, a Wiki embedded in our learning management system Moodle was introduced.
