Two hundred and four German social work practitioners were surveyed as to what extent they neglected ethical and normative principles in their daily professional social work practice. The principles have been derived from the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW), the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW), and the Deutscher Berufsverband für Soziale Arbeit (German Professional Association for Social Work – DBSH). Factor analysis led to a classification of these neglects into three areas. The neglect of goals of the profession (e.g., improving social work’s public image), of guidelines for dealing with clients (e.g., not favoring one client over another), and regarding general regulations of careful work (e.g., documenting one’s daily actions). Descriptive statistics for these three domains are presented. In addition, correlational analyses with eight validity variables document convergent, discriminant and criterion validity of the elaborated domains. Finally, the consequences of the results for teaching ethical principles in social work are discussed.
Cybermobbing
(2014)
The present study carried out in Germany is concerned with social work students' consumption of either non-prescribed medicine (e.g. amphetamine) or illegal drugs (such as cocaine) to improve their cognitive performance (neuroenhancement) during examinations. In the main study (n = 257), 16% reported to have consumed such substances, including more men than women and more older than younger students. The use of drugs was neither influenced by study-related variables (e.g. performance pressure) nor parent-related factors (e.g. high-performance expectations). However, as expected by the Theory of Planned Behavior, there were impacts of (1) students' belief in the supposed effectiveness of neuroenhan-cers, (2) their affiliation to a 'doping' student minority group, and (3) the possibility and situational ease of procurement of such substances. The conclusions were supported by a replication study (n = 444). Finally, implications of these results for social work education are discussed.
Falling birth rates and rising life expectancy are leading to global aging. The proportional increase in older people can be observed in almost all countries and regions worldwide. As a result, more people spend their later years in nursing homes. In homes where person-centered care is implemented, residents report greater satisfaction and quality of life. This approach is based on the wishes and needs of the residents. Therefore, the purpose of this scoping review is to explore the wishes and needs of nursing home residents. A scoping review of the literature was conducted in which 12 databases were systematically searched for relevant articles according to PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Both quantitative and qualitative study designs were considered. A total of 51 articles met the inclusion criteria. Included articles were subjected to thematic analysis and synthesis to categorize findings into themes. The analysis identified 12 themes to which the wishes and needs were assigned: (1) Activities, leisure, and daily routine; (2) Autonomy, independence, choice, and control; (3) Death, dying, and end-of-life; (4) Economics; (5) Environment, structural conditions, meals, and food; (6) Health condition; (7) Medication, care, treatment, and hygiene; (8) Peer relationship, company, and social contact; (9) Privacy; (10) Psychological and emotional aspects, security, and safety; (11) Religion, spirituality; and (12) Sexuality. Nursing home residents are not a homogeneous group. Accordingly, a wide range of needs and wishes are reported in the literature, assigned to various topics. This underscores the need for tailored and person-centered approaches to ensure long-term well-being and quality of life in the nursing home care setting.
This issues covers general questions of truly interdisciplinary migration research as well as studies on habitus based social education, children and youth migrants affected by disability and medical fragility, the fate of Palestine refugees, and political activism in the field of migration from a social work perspective.
This book is the outcome of experiences and lessons learned over the course of the three years of the New Modes of Mobility project. This is the second of the two volumes. In 2019, a consortium of European universities was formed and received
Erasmus+ funding for a Strategic Partnership project (Project No. 2019-1-DE01-KA203-005053). The coordinating institution was the University of Applied Sciences
Wurzburg-Schweinfurt (Germany), with project partners from the University of Debrecen (Hungary), Fontys University of Applied Sciences (The Netherlands), Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences LTD (Finland), University of Zielona Gora (Poland), and Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu (Romania).

This issue bridges regions and disciplines. Challenges for and perceptions of elderly family members left behind in a country of origin are contrasted with attitudes in receiving societies towards immigration and refugee policies as well as with volunteering in support of migrants as acts if reflective solidarity and inclusion. A general introduction to mandate and practice of the Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants is contrasted by most current topics related to national responses to environmental and climate-related displacement, COVID-19 effects on the Schengen border regime and the war in the Ukraine. Overviews of and linking to relevant European case law and developments complement each other.
