Another health risk these professionals experience is the time spent sitting in ergonomically at-risk postures. In the current study, a checklist with critical behaviors and behavioral products (results of behaviors) was used to assess the level of safety in a dental surgery office with seven employees. After baseline observations, task clarification, verbal and graphical feedback, goal setting and tangible reinforcers were used to improve the safety related behaviors of the employees. For all items on the checklist, the percent safe during baseline was 79.57\%. During intervention, the mean percent safe was 88.88\%, and the final level was 95\%. Follow-up observations showed a decline in percent safe after the feedback ended. Three of the four partial indices of the checklist showed improvements of 12\% to 33\% in percent safe.}, language = {en} } @article{BoerdleinKade, author = {B{\"o}rdlein, Christoph and Kade, Lisa}, title = {Behavior-based safety with paramedics}, series = {Journal of Organizational Behavior Management}, volume = {45}, journal = {Journal of Organizational Behavior Management}, issn = {0160-8061 1540-8604}, doi = {10.1080/01608061.2025.2454294}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:bvb:863-opus-58379}, pages = {17}, abstract = {Accident statistics from the German Federal and Railroad Accident Insurance (UVB) revealed that volunteer and full-time paramedics are exposed to an increased risk of workplace accidents. This trend is evident in the accident figures reported by the German Red Cross (DRK), which have been rising steadily since 2011. In part, the increased risk and number of accidents can be attributed to the perception of potential risks and the associated safety behavior of employees. Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) is recognized as one of the most well-researched and effective methods for changing behavior in the field of occupational safety. We report on our research using BBS to improve safety behavior among paramedics of the DRK. Results indicate that behavioral observations and feedback led to improvements in safety compliance in two rescue stations of the DRK. Resources for and obstacles to the implementation of BBS practices in the work of paramedics are discussed.}, language = {en} } @article{BoerdleinVorbeck, author = {B{\"o}rdlein, Christoph and Vorbeck, Benedict}, title = {Using auditory feedback in body weight training}, series = {Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis}, volume = {53}, journal = {Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis}, number = {4}, issn = {1938-3703}, doi = {10.1002/jaba.723}, pages = {2349 -- 2359}, abstract = {Auditory feedback has been successfully used to enhance performance in several sports such as golf and dance. The current study used auditory feedback procedures (i.e., a clicker) to improve the performance of 3 students performing a handstand. Handstands are part of a discipline called body weight training, that uses only the weight of an individual's own body to gain strength and body control. A multiple baseline design across four components was used to evaluate the effectiveness of auditory feedback. The results showed that auditory feedback was effective. The students and the trainer were highly satisfied with the auditory feedback procedure.
