Kinder sind von Beginn an (Rechts-)Subjekte und Träger eigener Rechte. Die UN-Kinderrechtskonvention gilt uneingeschränkt für alle in Deutschland lebenden Kinder. Eine an den Kinderrechten orientierte Pädagogik versteht sich als Anwältin der im internationalen, europäischen und nationalen Recht niedergelegten Schutz-, Förder- und Beteiligungsrechte jedes Kindes.
Die pädagogischen Fachkräfte in Kindertageseinrichtungen haben – in Ergänzung zu den Eltern – dafür Sorge zu tragen, dass die Kinder altersgemäß ihre Rechte kennenlernen und auch tatsächlich zu ihrem Recht kommen. Die Orientierung an den Kinderrechten und die Umsetzung des Kinderrechtsansatzes sind zentrale Bausteine guter Qualität in der Kita.
Heattile, a new method for heatmap implementations for mobile web-based cartographic applications

Mobile handheld computing devices are becoming a more important part of our digital infrastructure. Web-based map services and visualisations for spatial data are being optimised for use on these new mobile devices. Despite the fast development of mobile devices, compared to laptop and desktop computers they remain slower in terms of processing power and have limited memory capacity. Bandwidth in most areas is still limited, regardless of the fast expansion of high-speed internet for mobile devices. To overcome these two limitations an improvement in existing spatial data visualisations is necessary. This chapter compares existing methods and presents a new approach to generating and delivering web-based heat map visualisations for spatial data that is optimised for mobile devices.
Traffic Origins

Traffic incidents such as road accidents and vehicle breakdowns are a major source of travel uncertainty and delay, but the mechanism by which they cause heavy traffic is not fully understood. Traffic management controllers are tasked with routing repair and clean up crews to clear the incident and often have to do so under time pressure and with imperfect information. To aid their decision making and help them understand how past incidents affected traffic, we propose Traffic Origins, a simple method to visualize the impact road incidents have on congestion. Just before a traffic incident occurs, we mark the incident location with an expanding circle to uncover the underlying traffic flow map and when it ends, the circle recedes. This not only directs attention to upcoming events, but also allows us to observe the impact traffic incidents have on vehicle flow in the immediate vicinity and the cascading effect multiple incidents can have on a road network. We illustrate this technique using road incident and traffic flow data from Singapore.

The current main issue to cope with is not only recommending or retrieving the most relevant items and content, but defining them ad hoc. Other relevant issues include personalizing and adapting the information and the way it is displayed to the user’s current situation and interests. Ubiquitous computing further provides new means for capturing user feedback on items and providing information.

The workshop on Context-awareness in Retrieval and Recommendation is a forum for research on context-awareness in information retrieval, recommender systems and human computer interaction. The fourth iteration of the workshop was organized in conjunction to the 36th European Conference on Information Retrieval in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
This report looks at a higher education design class as a design case for teaching participatory design methods to beginning design students from different design disciplines (communication, product, and interface design). The class was an experiment in so far as basic design education usually focuses on other elementary aspects first, such as form, color, representation, etc. The experiment ́s purpose was to confront design students very early on in the program with a participatory design approach and find out how well they can handle and apply it and how valuable it is for their basic design education. The report describes the overall aim, structure, process, and outcomes of the design class at University of Applied Sciences Potsdam and takes a peep into the near future.

Recommender Systems refer to those applications that offer contents or items to the users, based on their previous activity. These systems are broadly used in several fields and applications, being common that an user interact with several recommender systems during his daily activities. However, most of these systems are black boxes which users really don’t understand how to work. This lack of transparency often causes the distrust of the users. A suitable solution is to offer explanations to the user about why the system is offering such recommendations. This work deals with the problem of retrieving and evaluating explanations based on hybrid recommenders. These explanations are meant to improve the perceived recommendation quality from the user’s perspective. Along with recommended items, explanations are presented to the user to underline the quality of the recommendation. Hybrid recommenders should express relevance by providing reasons speaking for a recommended item. In this work we present an attribute explanation retrieval approach to provide these reasons and show how to evaluate such approaches. Therefore, we set up an online user study where users were asked to provide movie feedback. For each rated movie we additionally retrieved feedback about the reasons this movie was liked or disliked. With this data, explanation retrieval can be studied in general, but it can also be used to evaluate such explanations.
This paper describes a novel emotionally intelligent cognitive assistant to engage and help older adults with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) to complete activities of daily living (ADL) more independently. Our new system combines two research streams. First, the development of cognitive assistants with artificially intelligent controllers using partially observable Markov decision processes (POMDPs). Second, a model of the dynamics of emotion and identity called Affect Control Theory that arises from the sociological literature on culturally shared sentiments. We present background material on both of these research streams, and then demonstrate a prototype assistive technology that combines the two. We discuss the affective reasoning, the probabilistic and decision-theoretic reasoning, the computer-vision based activity monitoring, the embodied prompting, and we show results in proof-of-concept tests.
Im Land Brandenburg gibt es eine Initiative zur Verbesserung der Beteiligung kleinerer Einrichtungen des kulturellen Erbes an der digitalen Präsentation. Diese gründet sich auf vier Säulen. Die erste ist der kulturspartenübergreifende »Arbeitskreis Brandenburg. digital«, der sich strategischer und konzeptioneller Grundlagenarbeit annimmt. Fachverbände bilden die zweite Säule und entwickeln kooperative Projekte. Größere Institutionen bilden zur Umsetzung der Projekte mit ihrer Kompetenz und Infrastruktur die dritte Säule. Als vierte Säule unterstützt die »Koordinierungsstelle Brandenburg-digital« die Kooperationspartner in Fragen der Planung und Umsetzung der Projekte. Mit Fördermitteln des Ministeriums für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kultur des Landes Brandenburg werden die Umsetzungen der Projekte und der Betrieb der Koordinierungsstelle ermöglicht.
