This study investigates the role of general and emotion-specific language skills in children’s and adolescents’ emotion understanding, building on previous research highlighting the significance of domain-specific language skills in conceptual development. We employ a novel inventory (CEVVT) to assess emotion-specific vocabulary. The study involved 10–11-year-old children (N = 29) and 16–17-year-old adolescents (N = 28), examining their emotion recognition and knowledge of emotion regulation strategies. Results highlight the ongoing development of emotion-specific vocabulary across these age groups. Emotion recognition correlated with general vocabulary in the younger group. In the older age group, emotion recognition was related to emotion-specific vocabulary size, but this effect only became apparent when controlling for the depth of emotion-specific vocabulary. Against expectation, there were no significant contributions of general or emotion-specific vocabulary to knowledge of emotion regulation strategies in either age group. These findings enhance our comprehension of the nuanced interplay between language and emotion across developmental stages. This article introduces PaSyMo (Participatory Systems Modeling), a gamified communication support system designed to assist urban planners in communicative and deliberative planning. PaSyMo integrates three conceptual pillars that guided its design: stakeholder engagement, participatory agent‐based modeling (ABM), and visualization on tangible interfaces. The system combines a simulation environment grounded in geodata and ABM with discursive elements from scenario workshops and role‐playing games, bridging digital and non‐digital formats. PaSyMo contributes to the growing field of GAM research (Games and Agent‐based Modeling; Szczepanska et al., 2022) by providing a framework that explores the integration of gaming mechanics with urban simulation tools, highlighting their potential to support sustainable urban planning. The approach draws from participatory modeling (Sterling et al., 2019; Voinov & Bousquet, 2010) while leveraging state‐of‐the‐art geospatial simulation and interactive interfaces to facilitate communication and co‐production of knowledge among diverse stakeholders. Exploratory findings suggest that combining gaming experience with geospatial data visualization and ABM offers a promising approach to communicate the potential implications and trade‐offs of urban planning initiatives. This integration enhances stakeholder engagement, promotes shared understanding, and supports consensus building. By making urban planning processes more interactive, PaSyMo can extend the impact of planning research beyond academic settings. Preliminary insights indicate that PaSyMo can enhance stakeholder understanding, knowledge integration, consensus‐building, and proactive planning, especially in contexts of decision‐making in complex and uncertain situations; however, these findings need to be substantiated in future studies. Method: A total of 428 patients diagnosed with various mental disorders according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fourth edition, underwent treatment with either PP or AP. Diagnoses were reassessed at the end of treatment, and patients provided annual self-reports of their mental health over a 6-year period. We employed propensity score methods and piecewise linear latent growth curve models to estimate treatment effects on primary outcomes (i.e., number of diagnoses, symptom distress) and secondary outcomes (i.e., personality dysfunction, interpersonal problems, general life satisfaction). Results: Patients exhibited substantial and sustained improvements across all outcomes in both treatments. Notably, those receiving AP experienced greater (long-term) improvement in primary and most secondary outcomes compared to those in PP. Improvements in PP primarily occurred during the 1st year, while AP patients continued to show progress throughout the entire observation period. For some outcomes (symptom distress, personality dysfunction, and interpersonal problems), AP was particularly effective for patients with more severe problems at baseline. Conclusions: Psychoanalytically oriented treatments in routine care are associated with substantial and lasting improvements, even posttreatment. Our findings highlight an incremental benefit of AP over PP, particularly for complex cases. Future research should explore treatment mechanisms, cost-effectiveness, and implications for health policy. Perceived Prevalence, Probability, and Fear of Drink and Needle Spiking JF - Journal of Drug Issues N2 - Contrasting widespread speculation in the media and public debate about spiking (administration of a substance to a person without their knowledge/consent), empirical evidence on the subject is lacking. This study aimed to investigate the assumed prevalence, perceived likelihood, and fear of drink-versus needle-spiking, and associated mental strain. Data from a cross-sectional online-survey (November 2022 – January 2023) of 1916 adults connected to Berlin’s nightlife-scene were analyzed. Almost a quarter reported having experienced drink-spiking, but only a small fraction sought medical or police attention; about 1% suspected needle-spiking. Presumptive victims of drink-spiking rated the likelihood and fear of spiking significantly higher and exhibited more symptoms of depression and anxiety. Considering toxicological and police findings, the reported prevalence and perceived likelihood of spiking seem to be highly overestimated. This, in conjunction with associated mental strain, highlights the importance of adequately addressing the issue of spiking through psychoeducation, prevention, and interprofessional investigation.
