Auch wenn in der Vergangenheit bereits einzelne Kultureinrichtungen Digitalisierungsprojekte durchgeführt haben, fällt es insbesondere kleinen Einrichtungen schwer aus eigener Kraft solche Projekte anzugehen. Für die Unterstützung der Kultureinrichtungen ist die Etablierung eines Landeskompetenzzentrums durch die großen Kultur- und Wissenschafts-einrichtungen vorgesehen. Zentrales Element davon soll eine Koordinierungsstelle DDB für die Beratung der Kultureinrichtungen des Landes Brandenburg werden. Die Fachhochschule Potsdam, als staatliche Hochschule des Landes Brandenburg, bietet insbesondere mit seinem Fachbereich Informationswissenschaften vielfältige Möglichkeiten der Kooperation Digitalisierungsbereich. Diese Möglichkeiten drücken sich vor allem durch das wissenschaftliche Know-how in Verbindung mit einem praxisorientierten Digitalisierungslabor aus. Aufgrund dieser Struktur ist die Ansiedlung der Koordinierungsstelle DDB an der FH Potsdam eine sinnvolle Option.
