Eine Vielzahl von Funktionen wird heute in einem einzigen Ger{\"a}t integriert. Die so entstehenden Hybriden stellen aus Sicht des Designs jedoch die Frage nach Form und Gestalt des Artefakts. Wegen der kleinen Gr{\"o}ße der mobilen Ger{\"a}te ist es folglich problematisch all diese unterschiedlichen Interfaces auf der Benutzeroberfl{\"a}che zu integrieren. Versucht man diese unterschiedlichen Interfaces zu vereinen, ist das Ergebnis ein un{\"u}bersichtliches, verwirrendes Interface mit eingeschr{\"a}nkter Bedienung. Zudem findet das Interface f{\"u}r die obsolete Desktop-Metapher immer noch Verwendung. Durch den bezug zu real existierenden Arbeitsumgebungen sind Desktop-Systeme zwar einfach zu bedienen und verst{\"a}ndlich, doch k{\"o}nnen sie nicht ausgebaut werden. Problematisch ist vor allem die kleine Gr{\"o}ße der Desktops, um die Desktop-Metapher konvenabel auszuf{\"u}hren. Demnach ist eine konvenable Bedienung aufgrund der veralteten Desktop-Metapher sowie des Interfaces hinsichtlich der Miniaturisierung der mobilen Ger{\"a}te nur eingeschr{\"a}nkt m{\"o}glich oder sogar undurchf{\"u}hrbar. In contrast, network visualizations represent the specific topological structure of a dataset through the visual connections of nodes and their positioning. So far there has been relatively little research on combining these two approaches. Shifted Maps aims to bring maps and network visualizations together as equals. The visualization of places shown as circular map extracts and movements between places shown as edges, can be analyzed in different network arrangements, which reveal spatial and temporal topologies of movement data. This concurrent analysis becomes difficult when data are grouped and split into small multiples for comparison. A design challenge is thus to provide representations that enable multiple perspectives, split into small multiples, to be viewed simultaneously in ways that neither clutter nor overload. We present a design framework that allows us to do this. We claim that multi-perspective comparison across small multiples may be possible by superimposing perspectives on one another rather than juxtaposing those perspectives side-by-side. This approach defies conventional wisdom and likely results in visual and informational clutter. For this reason we propose designs at three levels of abstraction for each perspective. By flexibly varying the abstraction level, certain perspectives can be brought into, or out of, focus. We evaluate our framework through laboratory-style user tests. We find that superimposing, rather than juxtaposing, perspective views has little effect on performance of a low-level comparison task. We reflect on the user study and its design to further identify analysis situations for which our framework may be desirable. A follow-up survey with 168 Reddit users clarified their intentions to react. However, the emphasis on the catastrophic impacts of climate change tends to induce feelings of fear, anxiety, and apathy in readers. Climate mitigation, adaptation, and protection—all highly urgent in the face of the climate crisis—are at risk of being overlooked. These topics are more difficult to communicate as they are hard to convey on varying levels of locality, involve multiple interconnected sectors, and need to be mediated across various channels from the printed newspaper to social media platforms. So far, there has been little research on data visualization to enhance affective engagement with data about climate protection as part of solution-oriented reporting of climate change. With this research we characterize the unique challenges of constructive climate journalism for data visualization and share findings from a research and design study in collaboration with a national newspaper in Germany. Using the affordances and aesthetics of travel postcards, we present Klimakarten, a data journalism project on the progress of climate protection at multiple spatial scales (from national to local), across five key sectors (agriculture, buildings, energy, mobility, and waste), and for print and online use.
