After a brief historical introduction, the chapter presents important definitions, actors, and focal points, as well as tools and initiatives. Despite innovation, the chapter shows how the opportunities of the digital paradigm in science communication are not yet fully being utilized and what can be done in the future to bring about change. Moreover, potentials and expertise of the Digital Humanities in this field, e. g., about the connection between ethical aspects and technological issues, are outlined. The chapter also shows how closely scientific communication and community building are related, particularly through social media.
