However, the related terminology is not unified among the different domains, such as digital media steganography, text steganography, cyber-physical systems steganography, network steganography (network covert channels), local covert channels, and out-of-band covert channels. To cope with this, a prime attempt has been done in 2015, with the introduction of the so-called hiding patterns, which allow to describe hiding techniques in a more abstract manner. Despite significant enhancements, the main limitation of such a taxonomy is that it only considers the case of network steganography. Therefore, this paper reviews both the terminology and the taxonomy of hiding patterns as to make them more general. Specifically, hiding patterns are split into those that describe the embedding and the representation of hidden data within the cover object. As a first research action, we focus on embedding hiding patterns and we show how they can be applied to multiple domains of steganography instead of being limited to the network scenario. Additionally, we exemplify representation patterns using network steganography.}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{KevinHildebrandtAltschaffeletal.2022, author = {Kevin, Lamsh{\"o}ft and Hildebrandt, Mario and Altschaffel, Robert and Keil, Oliver and Hempel, Ivo and Dittmann, Jana and Neubert, Tom and Vielhauer, Claus}, title = {Resilience against and detection of information hiding in nuclear instrumentation and control systems within the scope of NSS 17-T}, series = {Kerntechnik 2022, Leipzig, 21. - 22. By means of AI, cyber attacks can be efficiently conducted more successful through offensive AI. As for cyber defense, AI can be also utilized against cyber threats (defensive AI). Due to limited resources, especially in small and medium-sized companies (SMEs), there is a need to deploy more effective defensive cyber security solutions. Precisely, the adaptation of AI-based resilient defenses must be driven forward. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to identify and evaluate AI-related use cases with a high impact potential on the cyber security level, while being applicable to SMEs at the same time. In order to reach the research goal, an extensive literature review of several online catalogs, surveys and online platforms was conducted. In conclusion, seven crucial AI-based security features were outlined that are providing a high impact potential to the security level for SMEs. Afterwards, the results are discussed and set into a broader context. Even though AI-based security solutions are providing a large range of advantages, certain challenges and barriers using AI-related security applications are addressed in the paper as well. For this reason, there is a need to bridge the economics of privacy and threats to privacy. To this end, our work relies on the concept of privacy as contextual integrity. This framework defines privacy as appropriate information flows subjected to social norms within particular social contexts or spheres. In this paper, we introduce a preliminary version of a semantic model which aims to relate and provide understanding on how well-established business goals may affect their customers' privacy by designing IoT devices with permission access, data acquired by sensors, among other factors. Finally, we provide a use case application showing how to use the semantic model. The model aims to be an educational tool for professionals in business informatics during the modeling and designing process of a product which may gather sensitive data or may infer sensitive information, giving an understanding of the interaction of the product and its footprint with diverse actors (humans or machines). In the future, a further complete model of the presented may also target other groups, such as law enforcement bodies, as part of their educational training in such systems.}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{Frosch2023, author = {Frosch, Katharina}, title = {Scan to Learn: A Lightweight Approach for Informal Mobile Micro-Learning at the Workplace}, series = {Konferenz: IARIA The Fifteenth International Conference on Mobile, Hybrid, and On-line Learning; Venice (Italy)}, booktitle = {Konferenz: IARIA The Fifteenth International Conference on Mobile, Hybrid, and On-line Learning; Venice (Italy)}, publisher = {IARIA}, isbn = {978-1-68558-081-0}, pages = {53 -- 61}, year = {2023}, abstract = {Informal learning at the workplace is a crucial ingredient in updating and upskilling today's workforce, but in many jobs, informal learning opportunities are scarce. Bite-sized learning via mobile devices (Mobile Micro-Learning, MML) can be a powerful means to enhance informal work-related learning also in such learning-deprived fields. Based on good practices of recent MML implementations, a lightweight approach is developed. It involves an instructional blueprint and an open-source, low-threshold technology for MML, and meets the specific needs of workers in learning-deprived fields. The main idea is a scan-to-learn system where Quick Response (QR) codes are attached to physical objects in the work environment. The interplay between the phase transition effects and the contact-line motion, leading to its arrest, remains poorly understood. Here we reveal the early solidification patterns and dynamics of spreading hexadecane droplets. Total internal reflection imaging is employed to temporally and spatially resolve the early solidification behavior. With this, we determine the conditions leading to the contact-line arrest. We quantify the overall nucleation behavior, i.e., the nucleation rate and the crystal growth speed and show its sensitivity to the applied undercooling of the substrate. We also show that for strong enough undercooling it is the rapid growth of the crystals which determines the eventual arrest of the spreading contact line. We analyze experimental data and compare them with a simple model where the defect clusters adiabatically pass quasi-equilibrium solutions in one-constant approximation. According to many model systems, myosin motor-induced local contractions of initially isotropic actomyosin cortices are nucleation points for generating cortical flows. However, the positive feedback mechanisms by which spontaneous contractions can be amplified towards large-scale directed flows remain mostly speculative. To investigate such a process on spherical surfaces, we reconstituted and confined initially isotropic minimal actomyosin cortices to the interfaces of emulsion droplets. The presence of ATP leads to myosin-induced local contractions that self-organize and amplify into directed large-scale actomyosin flows. By combining our experiments with theory, we found that the feedback mechanism leading to a coordinated directional motion of actomyosin clusters can be described as asymmetric cluster vibrations, caused by intrinsic non-isotropic ATP consumption with spatial confinement. We identified fingerprints of vibrational states as the basis of directed motions by tracking individual actomyosin clusters. This paper presents a systematic literature review (SLR) of such approaches. Following established SLR methodology, we identified relevant work by systematically search in different academic online libraries and applying a selection process. Nine publications were chosen for indepth analysis. Our synthesis reveals differences and similarities of how the KG is accessed, traversed, and how the context is finally assembled. To that end, we develop a methodology and build a data processing pipeline that allows to gather data from different OSINT (Open Source Intelligence) sources, and processes it to obtain relevant cybersecurity metrics. To validate its operation and usefulness, we apply it to two countries, Germany and Spain, allowing to study the main threats that affect medical IT systems in these countries. Our initial findings reveal that 20\% of German hosts and 15\% of Spanish hosts tagged as medical devices have at least one CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures) with a CVSS (Common Vulnerability Scoring System) graded as critical (i.e., value 8 or greater). Moreover, we found that 74\% of CVEs found in German hosts are dated from earlier than 2020, whereas for Spanish hosts the percentage is 60\%. One significant source of potential vulnerabilities is medical cyber-physical systems (MCPS). Detecting intrusions in this environment faces challenges different from other domains, mainly due to the heterogeneity of devices, the diversity of connectivity types, and the variety of terminology. To summarize existing results, we conducted a structured literature review (SLR) following the guidelines of Kitchenham et al. for SLRs in software engineering. We developed six research questions regarding detection approach, detection location, included features, adversarial focus, utilized datasets, and intrusion prevention. We identified that most researchers focused on an anomaly-based detection approach at the network layer. The primary focus was on the detection of malicious insiders. While several researchers used publicly available datasets for training and testing their algorithms, the lack of suitable datasets resulted in the development of testbeds consisting of various medical devices. Based on the results, we formulated five future research topics. First, the special conditions of hospital networks, the MCPS deployed within them, and the contrasts to other IT and OT environments should be examined. Thereupon, MCPS-specific datasets should be created that allow researchers to address the health domain's unique requirements and possibilities. At the same time, endeavors aimed at standardization in this area should be supported and expanded. Moreover, the use of medical context for attack detection should be further explored. Last but not least, efforts for MCPS-tailored intrusion prevention should be intensified. This study investigates and compares the performance of six machine learning models—ResNet50, XGBoost, Logistic Regression, LightGBM, Support Vector Machine (SVM), and VGG16—using a curated dataset containing 678 legitimate (ham) and 520 spam images. The novelty of this research lies in its comprehensive side-by-side evaluation of diverse models on the same dataset, using standardized dataset preprocessing, balanced data splits, and validation techniques. Model performance was assessed using evaluation metrics such as accuracy, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, precision, recall, and area under the curve (AUC). The results indicate that ResNet50 achieved the highest classification performance, followed closely by XGBoost and Logistic Regression.
