Aufgrund der Tatsache, dass es in weiten Teilen Kolumbiens, gerade in den l{\"a}ndlichen agrarwirtschaftlich gepr{\"a}gten Gebieten, Probleme mit der Energieversorgung gibt, k{\"o}nnten die landwirtschaftlichen Abf{\"a}lle genutzt werden, um vor Ort Energie zu erzeugen und die Entwicklung dieser Regionen zu f{\"o}rdern. Die Forschungsgruppe „Biomass and Optimization of Thermal Systems" (BIOT) der „National University of Colombia" besch{\"a}ftigt sich mit genau diesem Thema. In dem Projekt „Efficient Use of Alternative Carbonaceous Fuels in the Power Generation in Colombia by Implementation of Fluidized Bed Reactors" ist geplant, eine zirkulierende Wirbelschichtanlage zur Vergasung von Biomassepartikeln zu konstruieren. Wirbelschichtreaktoren besitzen hervorragende W{\"a}rmetransporteigenschaften, sowie gute Partikelkontaktraten, welche notwendig f{\"u}r einen thermochemischen Wandlungsprozess sind [1]. Das Ziel des Projektes ist es zu untersuchen, welche der vor Ort anfallenden landwirtschaftlichen Abf{\"a}lle effizient genutzt werden k{\"o}nnen, um Energie durch Vergasungsprozesse unter Anwendung einer Wirbelschichtanlage zu produzieren. Die Auslegung des Wirbelschichtreaktors und die Modellierung des thermochemischen Wandlungsprozesses h{\"a}ngt stark von den physischen und fluiddynamischen Eigenschaften der verwendeten Biomassepartikel ab. Die vorliegende Arbeit besch{\"a}ftigt sich mit der experimentellen Bestimmung der wesentlichen Eigenschaften der Biomassepartikel. Dazu geh{\"o}ren: die Partikelgr{\"o}ßenverteilung, der mittlere Partikeldurchmesser, die Sch{\"u}tt- und Partikeldichte und der Feuchtigkeitsgehalt. Im Weiteren werden Fluidisierungsversuche mit Mischungen aus Quarzsand, welcher als Bettmaterial dient, und verschiedenen zugef{\"u}hrten Mengen an Biomassepartikeln durchgef{\"u}hrt. Res{\"u}mee Der vorstehend dargelegte Parforce-Ritt durch die Geschichte des Eisenbahnwesens mit spezieller Betrachtung von ausgew{\"a}hlten Schadensf{\"a}llen und aus ihnen abgeleiteter Schlußfolgerungen zeigt, daß aus Schadensf{\"a}llen sehr wohl Erkenntnisse abgeleitet werden k{\"o}nnen, um k{\"u}nftig Sch{\"a}den zu verh{\"u}ten. Sowohl der Wissenschaft und ihren Repr{\"a}sentanten als auch den Verantwortungstr{\"a}gern im Eisenbahnwesen f{\"a}llt hierbei naturgem{\"a}ß eine bedeutsame Rolle zu. Daß Entscheidungen und Vorgaben „aus h{\"o}herer Warte" mitunter zu Fehlleistungen f{\"u}hren k{\"o}nnen, dokumentierte der Wunsch nach der Realisierung der „bew{\"a}hrten Fischbauchform" f{\"u}r die von Birkinshaw gewalzten Schienen. Daß Vorgaben von h{\"o}herer Stelle aber auch positive und lange anhaltende Wirkungen haben k{\"o}nnen, hatte sich 1975 in Kirchm{\"o}ser gezeigt durch die damals angeregte Befassung des neuen Mitarbeiters mit Rissen und Br{\"u}chen im Bereich des Eisenbahnwesens auf der Grundlage der Bruchmechanik. Daß mit der wissenschaftlichen Analyse von Schadensf{\"a}llen und den daraus zu ziehenden Schlußfolgerungen nicht immer so umgegangen wird, wie es im Interesse der Gesellschaft mit der ethischen Verantwortung der Wissenschaft f{\"u}r Menschenleben und die Verhinderung materieller Sch{\"a}den angemessen sein sollte, zeigt u.a. die Rezension von Pusch zu dem Buch „Einf{\"u}hrung in die bruchmechanische Schadensbeurteilung" [50]: „Neben einer Vielzahl von Beispielen f{\"u}r die erfolgreiche bruchmechanische Bauteilbewertung unter Einbeziehung von Rissen bzw. riß{\"a}hnlicher Spannungskonzentrationsstellen sowie der Werkstoffentwicklung und dem beanspruchungsgerechten Werkstoffeinsatz ist hierbei auch die Analyse von Schadensf{\"a}llen und die Ableitung von Maßnahmen f{\"u}r die Schadensverh{\"u}tung von {\"o}konomischer und {\"o}kologischer Bedeutung. Der letztgenannte Anwendungsbereich, im Schrifttum h{\"a}ufig aus vereinbarter Vertraulichkeit unterrepr{\"a}sentiert, ist Gegenstand des vorliegenden Titels, wobei der Autor an einer Vielzahl von anschaulich erl{\"a}uterten Beispielen bruchmechanischer Schadensfallanalysen auf eigene Arbeiten als Forscher und Hochschullehrer verweisen kann." Konstatiert werden muß, daß der Umgang mit Schadensf{\"a}llen und ihrer wissenschaftlichen Aufarbeitung im Ausland - erinnert sei an dieser Stelle an die spektakul{\"a}ren Eisenbahnbetriebsunf{\"a}lle von Woodlawn bei Marshall (Texas, USA) am 12. November 1983 und bei Hatfield nahe London (Großbritannien) am 17. November 2000 - wesentlich offener, unvoreingenommener und letztlich effektiver ist als in Deutschland. Gutachten werden hierzulande zur Monopolisierung der Wissenschaft genutzt, was - unabh{\"a}ngig, ob institutionell oder individuell veranlaßt, - mit Fug und Recht als eine spezielle Art wissenschaftlichen Fehlverhaltens zu disqualifizieren ist. Nicht auszuschließen ist, daß sich die Wissenschaft durch ihre Repr{\"a}sentanten auf Irrwege begibt, wie es aus der Vergangenheit bekannt ist, als Otto von Guericke und Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz aufgefundene Knochen als zu einem Einhorn geh{\"o}rig interpretierten [51]. Ein {\"a}hnlicher Irrtum ist es wohl, wenn bei der Rollkontakterm{\"u}dung von Eisenbahnschienen dem in die Risse eingedrungenen Wasser eine hydraulische Sprengwirkung zugeschrieben wird, die f{\"u}r die weitgehend gradlinige Rißausbreitung verantwortlich sein soll bei vollst{\"a}ndiger Vernachl{\"a}ssigung der durch die Rollkontaktbeanspruchung ge{\"a}nderten Eigenschaften des Schienenstahls.K{\"o}nnen die Darlegungen als Anregung zum Befassen mit der technischen Vergangenheit aufgefaßt werden, so sollte aus der Sicht des dargelegten wissenschaftlichen Bet{\"a}tigungsfeldes, der Bruchmechanik, gezeigt werden, daß mit Hilfe bruchmechanischer Analysen die Ursachen aufgetretener Sch{\"a}den gekl{\"a}rt werden k{\"o}nnen, sei es f{\"u}r die Lebensdauer rißgesch{\"a}digter Bauteile, f{\"u}r die Gef{\"a}hrlichkeit von Rissen oder welche Maßnahmen dazu gef{\"u}hrt h{\"a}tten, den Bruch zu vermeiden. Kann auf diese Weise die Verantwortlichkeit f{\"u}r aufgetretene Sch{\"a}den gekl{\"a}rt werden, so ist es doch wichtiger, k{\"u}nftig {\"a}hnliche Sch{\"a}den zu vermeiden!
