Neither in practice nor in theory does any doubt exists about the relevance of private investors for the financing of entrepreneurs especially in the seed- and start-up phase and studies in this area exist. Yet, such insights do not exist for the financing in social entrepreneurship. Some first investment activities of private investors in Germany but especially in the US and Great Britain show increased interest in social entrepreneurship. Though, the scientific community has yet to pay the deserved interest in this field. Neither the finance literature regarding social businesses nor publications are dealing with business angels and private investors in social entrepreneurship. From a scientific view point a clear research gap exists. In practice, this lack of knowledge can lead to an inefficiency in the capital market. The result are increasingly high cost for the identification of new investment opportunities for both sides as well as a waste of the great financial potential the informal capital market has to offer to social entrepreneurs.(Vgl. Sorheim 2003, S. 338) The dissertation starts with a deep dive into the area of Social entrepreneurship, it`s possibilities and specific challenges with regards to funding. A conceptually frame is developed, based on research on Business Angels. This qualitative and explorative work is bases on open and only partially structured interviews with ten business angels. The contribution of this dissertation is the intensive and detailed discussion and exploration of this knowledge gap with active social investors. As a result, this work delivers first insights into the topic and can be used for further research and explorations. In particular, the following aspects are being explored throughout the course. All findings are evaluated in the light of relevant theories from the fields of economics, psychology and sociology. I. Who is the social investor and what drives him? II. How are the deal flow and investment process structured and what are are influencing factors? III. What characterizes the investor-investee relationship? IV. What theoretical modells can explain the private social investor and his behaviour?}, language = {de} }
