To achieve this goal I developed a measurement for the construct of dynamic managerial capabilities. I developed a simulation game where participants take the role of a manager and work with firm resources under conditions of changing environments. I conducted a series of studies which proved the reliability and validity of my measurement and of my manipulation method which I also developed for my dissertation project. Based on the rules of formal logic I investigated the concept of a capability and solved the problem of definition tautology stressed by many scholars. In my work I distinguish between a potential and an activated capability, and my developed tool allowed me to measure the difference and relationships between these two sub-concepts. Firstly, I measured the influence of potential dynamic managerial capabilities on activated dynamic managerial capabilities. Secondly, I investigated the moderating role of the affective states in the process of activation of a dynamic managerial capability. Finally, I measured the role of affective states as direct triggers for development of dynamic managerial capabilities. The results of my study proved to be interesting and significant. First of all, I showed that the potential and activated sensing and seizing capacities are positively related to the activated sensing and seizing capacities of managers. I proved a lack of impact of the potential reconfiguration capacity on the activated reconfiguration capacity. Secondly, I showed that the level of valence (pleasantness) and the level of arousal are negatively related to the activation of the seizing capacity. In the event the moderation of the activation of the reconfiguration capacity the level of pleasantness and arousal play a positive role. My hypotheses concerning the role of affective states in the activation of the sensing capacity were not significant, so I could not confirm any relationship. Thirdly, I found that the level of pleasantness is negatively related to the development of the sensing capacity. Both valence and arousal played no significant role for the development of the seizing and reconfiguration capacities.}, language = {en} }
