Therefore, we urgently need to develop workflows to forecast the long-term impacts of climate change under various emission scenarios and near-term forecasts to predict the response of the lake variables' extreme events and inform decision-makers about mid and shortterm variabilities, enabling proactive and informed management. However, developing a forecasting workflow requires a proper understanding of the theoretical concepts and definitions of forecasts and projections, which are often not recognized correctly in the forecasting literature. Forecasts should not only make predictions but also quantify uncertainties or skills to provide reliable information. This thesis aims at developing a general workflow focusing on lake temperature, which can be applied at different forecasting horizons. The workflow employs ensemble techniques, skill scoring, and uncertainty analysis, using state-of-the-art open-source climate data and lake models to provide robust forecasts. The workflows were applied at two sites: Lake Sevan, a large natural alpine lake, and the Wupper Reservoir, a highly flushed temperate reservoir. The long-term end-of-the-century projections were conducted for Lake Sevan by employing a large multi-dimensional ensemble generated by forcing an ensemble of five hydrodynamic lake models with a multi-domain ensemble of CORDEX GCMs (General Circulation Models) and RCMs (Regional Climate Models) projections. The approach also included quantification of the contributions from the sources of uncertainty. The mid-term seasonal forecasts were conducted on the Wupper Reservoir by utilizing an integrated workflow of coupled Catchment-Lake and auxiliary inflow-temperature and outflow models, using the ECMWF SEAS-5 seasonal forecasts as forcing data. This project marked the first application of seasonal forecasts for lakes within a study that included multiple case studies and provided the corresponding forecast skills to address the probabilistic nature of the seasonal forecasts. The short-term forecasts employed a simplified version of the workflow used for seasonal forecasts but used the DWD ICON numerical weather predictions as first application of ICON for lakes. The probabilistic nature of the climate projections poses challenges to the application, as predictability in some regions can be limited. However, the findings of this thesis confirm that the general concept is valid to address the probabilistic nature of climate and weather predictions, deliver forecasts for the targeted horizons, and include skills and uncertainty quantification to ensure reliability. This is particularly true for far-reaching strategies of structural change, such as the transition from a linear to a circular economy. Current research on the role of consumers in the context of the circular economy highlights both opportunities and challenges in promoting circular consumption. However, moving away from linear take-use-waste practices and integrating circular forms of consumption - such as reduce, reuse and repair - into consumers' everyday social practices remains a challenge. This dissertation explores the intricate relationship between routine and change, between individual agency in adopting circular practices and the limits and opportunities of socio-material structures to support this process, focusing on single-use plastic consumption. It comprises three articles, each pursuing different but interrelated research objectives. Chapter 1 describes the background and motivation for researching everyday social practices in the transition to a circular economy, provides an overview of the relevant literature and sets out the research objectives and methods. Chapter 2 presents a systematic review of the existing literature and develops a conceptual framework for analysing the appropriation of circular consumer practices in the context of everyday life. This framework also enables an analysis of the potential trade-offs and rebound effects of appropriating circular practices. Chapter 3 demonstrates the relevance of the framework developed in Chapter 2 by applying it to reducing single-use plastic in everyday life. Based on living lab experiments, the empirical analysis shows that single-use plastic consumption is deeply ingrained in everyday routines and presents significant barriers to reduction, even among consumers committed to sustainability. The study presented in Chapter 3 identifies packaging-free supermarkets as a promising alternative to single-use plastic products. However, it also highlights the barriers to widespread adoption, such as limited accessibility and insufficient product variety. Building on these findings, Chapter 4 examines the key drivers influencing the integration of packaging-free supermarkets into everyday life. It outlines three future scenarios: technology-driven convenience, community-orientated sustainability and resource scarcity. These scenarios illustrate how technological advances, increased community engagement and the pressure of limited resources may influence the future of circular consumption, particularly in the context of packaging-free supermarkets. Chapter 5 summarises the overall contributions, highlights the strengths and limitations of the methods and recommendations and discusses the significance of the findings for advancing the transition to a circular economy.}, subject = {Packaging-free supermarkets; Verpackungsfreie Superm{\"a}rkte; Circular economy; Circular consumer practices; Everyday social practices; Kreislaufwirtschaft; Zirkul{\"a}re Konsumentenpraktiken; Allt{\"a}gliche soziale Praktiken; Einwegplastik; Single-use plastic; Alltag; Soziales Handeln; Kreislaufwirtschaft; Kunststoffverpackung; Reallabor; Szenario}, language = {en} } @misc{OPUS4-6828, title = {Amtliches Mitteilungsblatt der BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, 2024,40 (20.12.2024)}, doi = {10.26127/BTUOpen-6828}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:kobv:co1-opus4-68287}, year = {2024}, abstract = {Satzung der BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg zur Regelung der Zusammensetzung, der Zust{\"a}ndigkeiten und des Verfahrens des Organs nach \S 6 Abs. 2, S. 3 GWHL (i.d.F. von Art. 7 S. 1 Nr. 3a des Gesetzes zur Weiterentwicklung des Brandenburgischen Hochschulsystems vom 09. Entomotoxicology combines forensic entomology and toxicology by investigating the effects of toxic substances on forensic relevant species. Ceftriaxone is a cephalosporin and belongs to the β-lactam antibiotics and levofloxacin is a quinolone antibiotic. Because of endogenous bactericidal secretions, maggots are adapted to live on surfaces with a high density of potential bacterial pathogens such as corpses, carcasses, excrements, or other decaying materials. This property is utilised in medicine to treat bacterial infections and in forensic sciences to determine the time of death and raises the question of the extent to which an additional bactericidal source influences the development of maggots. To answer this question experiments were carried out for three different species in the family Calliphoridae (blow flies). The species Lucilia sericata, Calliphora vomitoria and Protophormia terraenovae were selected for the study to remain within one family of Diptera. For each test procedure, 8 samples were prepared. A control treatment without antibiotics, one treatment each with a ceftriaxone concentration of 28.57 μg/g, 14.3 μg/g and 7.14 μg/g, one treatment each with a levofloxacin concentration of 3.57 μg/g, 1.79 μg/g and 0.89 μg/g and a mixed treatment. Additional tests were conducted in the microbiology department of the Medizinische Universit{\"a}t Lausitz - Carl-Thiem to test the duration of the effects of antibiotics in the culture medium. Both antibiotics are significantly longer active in the nutritional basis without natural elimination. The antibacterial effects of levofloxacin were observed at all examined concentrations during all 10 days of the tests and antibacterial effects of ceftriaxone were observed for 6, 7 and 8 days respectively. The maggot development of Calliphora vomitoria was significantly delayed by 24 - 48 hours depending on the concentration of the antibiotics, which could result in an underestimation of the post-mortem interval. The maggot development of Lucilia sericata was not significantly altered by the used antibiotics, errors in the determination of the time of death are therefore unlikely. Depending on the concentration of the antibiotics, the development time of Protophormia terraenovae was significantly reduced by 24 - 48 hours. The reduced development time could result in an overestimation of the post-mortem interval. As Protophormia terraenovae is considered to be a medically utilised species, the improved growth conditions could be relevant for both forensic investigations and medical treatments. The significantly different effects of the tested antibiotics on the three species highlight that it is impossible to draw conclusions and generalise about effects on other untested species.}, subject = {Entomotoxicology; Entomotoxikologie; Antibiotika; Schmeißfliegen; Entomologie; Leichenliegezeit; Antibiotics; Blowflies; Entomology; Post-mortem interval; Schmeißfliegen ; medizinische Entomologie; Ceftriaxon; Levofloxacin; Todeszeitbestimmung}, language = {en} } @phdthesis{Fotsing2024, author = {Fotsing, Cedrique}, title = {Point cloud processing : 3D indoor scans of buildings as essential tools in engineering, design and construction}, doi = {10.26127/BTUOpen-6894}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:kobv:co1-opus4-68947}, school = {BTU Cottbus - Senftenberg}, year = {2024}, abstract = {Recent advances in laser scanning systems have enabled the acquisition of 3D point cloud representations of scenes. This technological progress has significantly transformed and revitalized several sectors, including architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) fields. The fundamental purpose of this thesis is to design and propose a set of methods for the automatic generation of 3D semantic models of multi-level buildings from indoor point clouds. The research encompasses a comprehensive workflow, starting with the acquisition of point cloud data, progressing through essential segmentation techniques for identifying distinct architectural elements, and culminating in the generation of the final model. The initial part of our work provides a comprehensive overview of diverse approaches to 3D scanning and technologies. Subsequently, we introduce an innovative point cloud registration technique, essential in obtaining both high-quality and comprehensive point cloud datasets. In the second part, we mainly focus on segmentation processes. A method for extracting planar structures is developed, followed by a specialized method for segmenting wall structures and identifying openings in wall blocks. The third part mainly focuses on the presentation of BIM technologies and their usefulness in the fields of AEC. Finally, the last part is devoted to the design of a complete pipeline for generating the 3D model from indoor point clouds. In the proposed pipeline, after segmenting the point clouds into potential building floors, a wall detection process is performed on each floor segment. Then, room, ground, and ceiling extractions are conducted using the 2D constellation obtained from the projection of the walls onto the ground plan. The identification of the openings in the walls is performed using a deep learning-based classifier that separates doors and windows from non-consistent holes. Based on the geometric and semantic information from previously detected elements, the final model is generated in IFC format. The effectiveness and reliability of the proposed methods and pipeline are demonstrated through extensive experiments at each step. The results reveal high precision and recall values, ensuring the fidelity of the generated models. Understanding the exchange of energy and carbon plays an important role in reflecting responses to climate change. In this study, an eddy covariance (EC) measurement system installed in the high Andean Mountains of southern Ecuador was used. As EC measurements are affected by heterogeneous topography and the vegetation height, the main objective was to estimate the effect of the sloped terrain and the forest on the turbulent energy and carbon fluxes considering the energy balance closure (EBC) and the heat storage. The results showed that the performance of the EBC was generally good and estimated it to be 79.5\%. This could be improved when the heat storage effect was considered. Based on the variability of the residuals in the diel, modifications in the imbalances were highlighted. Particularly, during daytime, the residuals were largest (56.9 W/m2 on average), with a clear overestimation. At nighttime, mean imbalances were rather weak (6.5 W/m2) and mostly positive while strongest underestimations developed in the transition period to morning hours (down to -100 W/m2). With respect to the Monin-Obukhov stability parameter ((z - d)/L) and the friction velocity (u*), it was revealed that the largest overestimations evolved in weak unstable and very stable conditions associated with large u* values. In contrast, underestimation was related to very unstable conditions. The estimated carbon fluxes were independently modelled with a non-linear regression using a light-response relationship and reached a good performance value (R2 = 0.51). All fluxes were additionally examined in the annual course to estimate whether both the energy and carbon fluxes resembled the microclimatological conditions of the study site. This unique study demonstrated that EC measurements provide valuable insights into land-surface-atmosphere interactions and contribute to our understanding of energy and carbon exchanges. Ti-6Al-4V is frequently used for implants due to its biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, and specific strength. However, depending on the surface quality, the attachment behavior of the bone to the implant varies. Magnesium implants promote the regeneration of bone tissue and biodegrade as the bone tissue heals. Combining the properties of both materials in one implant enables a reduced implant volume and increased stability. For this reason, this study aims to demonstrate the feasibility of creating a material bond between the materials Ti-6Al-4V and AZ91. For this purpose, Ti-6Al-4V truncated cones and AZ91 sleeves were produced using the additive manufacturing process of laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF). The as-built sleeves were then pressed onto machined truncated cones. Since zinc serves as a lubricant and has good diffusion properties with the materials used as a result of heat treatment, a comparison was made between zinc-coated and the as-built Ti-6Al-4V samples. This showed that a bond was created after hot isostatic pressing and that the push-out force could be increased by more than 4.5 times. Consequently, a proof of feasibility was demonstrated, and a high potential for applications in medical technology was shown.}, subject = {AZ91; Ti-6Al-4V; Additive manufacturing; L-PBF; Implant technology}, language = {en} }
