Most of the organizations have no awareness of their intellectual capital even though it is an important value driver in economy’s history. Traditional financial statements do not provide the relevant information to understand how their resources create value in the future. Intellectual Capital Reports are designed to bridge this gap by presenting information about how intellectual resources create future value. Thus far intellectual capital reports are mostly used in the private sector. This states the question if libraries also can adapt intellectual capital statement in their commercial activities. The thesis outlines the theoretical principles and introduces general view of selected methods to identify measure and control organization’s intellectual capital. The focus will be a transfer of the scheme „Wissensbilanz – Made in Germany“ on libraries. Additional it presents examples and references for supporting libraries to implement the method. In conclusion can be resumed intellectual capital reports are adaptable in libraries although the application of the „Wissensbilanz – Made in Germany“ is determined on the library’s individual basis.
