A truly interdisciplinary study of culture necessitates new publishing forms and formats that are not restricted by paywalls or institutional boundaries but rather focus on open dissemination of knowledge. Yet such openness shall not remain merely in the realm of open access, but go beyond and include many more dimensions such as openness to multimedia formats, to all career stages, or to a broad range of cultural concepts.
Therefore, the International Graduate for the Study of Culture (GCSC) at Justus-Liebig-University in Giessen, Germany, created its own open access e-journal: On_Culture: The Open Journal for the Study of Culture. It is a biannual, peer-reviewed academic e-journal created and edited by doctoral researchers, postdocs, and professors working at the GCSC. It provides a platform and a forum for pursuing and reflecting on the study of culture. It investigates, problematizes, and develops key concepts and methods in the field. Developing such new approaches and emerging topics is a collaborative and collective process. On_Culture is dedicated to fostering such collective processes and the cultural dynamics at work in thinking about and reflecting on culture.
To reflect these multi-faceted inquiries, the journal consists of three sections: academic _Articles (double-blind peer reviewed), _Essays, and _Perspectives such as video clips, interviews, and visual statements, which can be submitted on a rolling basis. On_Culture is the result of collaborative processes and emergent structures in the field of e-publishing. On_Culture puts new approaches and emerging topics in the (trans)national study of culture 'on the line' and, in so doing, fills the gap____ between 'on' and 'culture'. As such, On_Culture develops a concept of openness that goes beyond open access but rather reflects the openness of the study of culture as a whole.

The presentation focuses on a concept related to the collection management in libraries, the floating collection, as well as its introduction at the Oulu City Library and the experiences gained. A floating collection means that library materials are no longer transported to its "home library unit after a customer returns them to a library, and the material remains as part of the collection at the receiving branch library. It needs to be accepted that the customer will "decides where the material is located. A floating collection reduces logistic S. The effects of floating on the collection have been studied very little. There is very little data on customer satisfaction. A few cities in Finland have adopted the floating collection. The Oulu City Library started planning for the introduction of floating in early 2012. The pilot project was run from November 2013 until the end of 2014. The floating collection was introduced in all library units of Oulu in early 2015. The Oulu City Library uses a library program called Koha. In Koha, floating can be configured by unit or by material. Floating is linked with centralized selection of material S. In centralized selection, items are acquired (selected) for the Oulu City Library as a whole only, not for individual unit S. Significantly fewer selectors are needed in this model than when selections are made at each unit separately. The staff looks at the collection as a whole, not as a collection for a single library unit. Vortrag in englischer Sprache
Usage of Public Space and Media for Library Advocacy: Public Library Cacak New Building Case Study
(2018)
The City of Cacak in Serbia in 2009 decided to purchase vacant Army Cultural Center for the needs of Public Library Cacak, which from 1946 is waiting for own permanent building. From 2010 to 2015 an optimal architectural solution was on agenda of the City officials, unfortunately almost without any participation from the representatives of the Library in making decisions or voting for the best solution.Nevertheless, the Library staff managed to promote, advocate and lobby all these years to obtain the new building only for library purpose, as part of the local community felt that 3,500 square meters for Library would be just too much in the city of 100.000 inhabitant S. The marketing strategy of librarians was to use all available public space and media attention to stipulate that such project was not planned and executed in Serbia for almost three decades, at least in the public libraries sector. At the same time, politicians were appealed with the prospect of having such a project during their term, with the City of Cacak becoming the leading city in Serbia with the size and modernity of its public library. This strategy proved successful, as from 2017 the Army Cultural Center is under reconstruction, with an expected opening of new Public Library Cacak in late 2018. The whole of building will be just library, which is also big success for the librarians in an unfavorable environment. This paper will analyze used methods for library cause advocacy in public space and media, through public events, Library events, formal and informal meetings, as well as media (print, electronic, Internet). Special attention will be devoted to the long lasting effects of advocacy, promotion and lobbying on the creation of institution´s new image in modern society.
This session will report on a study that identifies human perceptions and concerns regarding readiness for school library education. It constructs knowledge about how education for school librarianship is received in Germany by measuring the perceptions of library science educators, library school students, and librarians in Germany in 2016. The Concerns Based Adoption Model (CBAM) theory and methodology was used to measure these perception S. Coursework that focuses on the unique contributions of a school librarian is currently not available in Germany and could be a first step to realizing an impact on PISA reading literacy scores, which have been lagging. This study garnered 183 participants from various employment backgrounds, ages, levels of education, and states in Germany in order to answer the following research questions: 1) What are the two highest stages of concern for librarians, library science educators, and library science students' regarding the readiness for school librarianship education in Germany? 2) What are librarians, library science educators, and library science students' feelings and knowledge regarding the readiness for school librarianship education in Germany? Participants in this session will learn about the CBAM theory and methodology and the results of this study.
