allegro-C originated at Braunschweig University Library from early beginnings in 1980. Today, it is an object-oriented, configurable and fully scriptable database system of high capacity. In most cases, it is used together with a complete package of parameters and scripts that configure it as an Integrated Library System (ILS). By the end of 2012, all source codes of all components will be released as open source. allegro-C will then be a universal innovation tool for database applications with library and bibliographic data structures and tasks.
