Patron-driven acquisiton is often seen only in connection with electronic resources. The "EVA" project approaches this method in regard to printed material. Inter-library-loan requests can highlight gaps in the local library collection. Subject librarians can use this data for more efficient acquisition and collection building. The "ErwerbungsVorschlags-Assistent" (EVA) is a new module that enables subject librarians to review ILL requests and to decide beforehand if the request should go through or if the specified medium should be acquired for the local collection. ILL requests are automatically compared to specific criterias in regard to their suitability as an acquisition, enriched with external data and presented to the appropriate subject librarian. This new module is fully integrated in the ILL systems of the Northrine-Westphalian library consortium, however specific subsystems are also fit for use with other existing systems. Since October 2011, EVA is in production with several German university libraries. But the conversion of ILL- into acquisition-requests poses also some questions: Is there a competition between ILL and collection building? Is it useful to minimize the number of ILL requests in this way? How is the user experience and service level for patrons impacted? Experiences and preliminary results from the participating libraries are presented and further directions of its new workflows are explored.
