First a definition of the term "catalog enrichment" is given. Next the motivation and technical approach of the project is outlined, thus enabling the audience to put the basic idea of the project - gathering and aggregating LOD from distributed sources for later re-use by anybody - in its context. The chosen technical infrastructure is derived from these explanations and described as the storage of RDF data, clustered in named graphs within a triplestore. The next section deals with the already established links between the original data (a subset of the union catalog of the hbz) and a number of freely available data sets (DBPedia, Open Library and others). Methods, tools and vocabularies are described which are used to discover and describe links between resources. A number of successes and problems that were achieved or identified in the course of the project are discussed and illustrated with the help of a few examples. Still unanswered questions include: which data should be presented inline with the metadata catalog record; which data should only be linked to; which data should be integrated dynamically and which should be held locally and indexed in the catalog database? Also solving the problem of choosing the best and most feasible way for establishing links between the objects in the different data sets stills requires some effort, especially considering the question of the level (FRBR work?, manifestation?) on which to establish these links. In the next section possible enhancements and further develoments are discussed. It seems possible to create a centralized, cooperative enrichment database (without any limitations imposed by the title data of the hbz catalog) which could then be made accessible as an open and free service. Finally a prototypical integration in a internal test installation of the DigiBib portal via SPARQL queries is used to demonstrate the already available real world usability. All data that had been aggregated at the time of the presentation is available for re-use via lobid.org.
