Library of Things are gaining increasing relevance for Public Libraries in practice. The topic is only rudimentarily but controverse discussed in the library community and literature so far. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to explore the topic area Library of Things focused on Public Libraries in Germany. In the course of this the following question guides the research interest: Whether and to what extent are Library of Things reconcilable to the mission and self-concept of Public Libraries. Firstly, by means of desk research it is carried out a survey about count and kind of Library of Things in German Public Libraries. Furthermore, to answer the research question expert interviews were realised. The findings show that Library of Things embedded in an appropriate overall concept are reconcilable with Public Library as a platform, hub for the community, third place, experience and inspiration space. By having Library of Things Public Libraries may contribute to renew and update their original social mission and to further distinguish oneself as an environmentally sustainable institution. Established without an overall concept Library of Things in Public Libraries might turn out to be a passing fad.
