The Theatre Museum Düsseldorf collects, preserves and presents German theatre history by the example of the city and the region (North-Rhine Westphalia). Collaboration is a very important aspect in this context. The libraries of the cultural institutions have established and maintain the Union Catalogue of Düsseldorf's Cultural Institutions. The Theatre Museum participates from the beginning in d:kult (Digital Archive of Art and Culture in Düsseldorf). D:kult is the initiative of cultural institutes, funded by the city of Düsseldorf. It promotes the common recording, management and accessibility of cultural objects within their responsibility. The museum was involved, because of the diversity of its collection, its interest to implement and use advanced information technology and its target to become well known and to offer useful and interesting services to a broad public. The museum tries to offer a view behind the scene, beside the traditional presentation by exhibition, guided tours, events and performances. It enables the visitor / user to see, what’s going on in all parts of the museum, especially in those which are hidden (the main part of the collection) or disappeared (e.g. former presented exhibitions).
