The dramatic growth of social media usage on the web (cf. Facebook) is mentioned. Charlene Li's model auf user activities on the web ("Engagement Pyramid") is introduced. The presentation goes on with naming a few and tools and uses for web monitoring. Challenges and ideas of social web strategies for libraries und similar institutions are discussed.
First is described the future internet user, who seldom uses websites, but uses often his compilation of rss-feeds, actualising automatically. The source of such feeds is often social software, which can be run from every personal computer, because it is offered to webservers often without fees. Several services are described and the application by libraries is outlined. Those services are not broad introduced in German libraries, because a revision of practical thinking is necessary at first. The afforded skills for this revision are technical innovation ability, moderation competence, capability to generate user-orientated contents, proactive and flexible professional action. It is supposed to use the new services at first before implement them in the library management and initiate this at best with working groups of the library.
