The ongoing digitalization is also making its way into public libraries in Germany. In order to provide equal access to digital services and information for all people, regardless of their limitations or abilities, libraries should focus on digital accessibility. In the theoretical part of this bachelor thesis, the role of a library as a „third place“ and the technical and legal requirements for digital accessibility are presented. In the empirical part, an online survey and expert interviews are used to explore how library employees assess the relevance of the topic and the status quo of the implementation of digital accessibility. Additionally, it will be examined how the employees feel informed about the topic and what barriers there might be to different levels of the progress in implementation. The results of this thesis show that the topic is considered to be very important and relevant, but that employees only feel informed about it to a limited extent. The current level of implementation of digital accessibility is rated as average and there is a lot of potential for optimization.
