This article will provide information on the history of the development and transformation of libraries in general in Kosova.
According to related evidence and arguments, we will notice the rise and fall of the development of libraries in different periods of time.
These periods of growth but also those that marked the beginning of the collapse, continue until the last decade of the 20th, century when the apartheid practiced by the Serbian system in the 90s in the educational and cultural institutions of Kosovo, in this case the libraries of Kosovo, was not spared. The burning and destruction of libraries is an argument that reveals their only goal, the disappearance of a history, culture and its people. Albanian professionals in Kosova, and academic sources became pawns in a murky political game which resulted in violent conflict latter. Despite the great losses that the libraries in Kosovo suffered, especially in 1999, where in addition to the destruction of the collections, and their burning, the burning and destruction of these library locations also followed suit. The beginning of the 21st century also brings a will to develop libraries in step with the times. Different projects, different initiatives for the reopening and development of libraries, and then the continuous education of library staff, the creation of the library network and digitization, are just some of the projects that the National Library of Kosovo has carried out and implemented.
However the goals of the National Library of Kosovo for the transformation of the libraries in Kosovo, in order to preserve the cultural heritage of our territories, but also to serve the general public with collections and information about the cultural heritage of our country. NLK aims to inform the local, but also foreign public, as well as future generations, with academic, historical and factual information and resources.
