Change: Embracing it, managing it and changing again
- Libraries today exist in an environment of rapid change. New services, spaces and projects often become out of date quickly. The needs of our primary clientele are in a state of change as well. Modern libraries of all types need to be prepared to meet this array of new expectations and work and thrive in the new change environment. What is needed in today´s libraries is a culture of change, one that embraces innovation and risk-taking and sets up a culture of positive, continuous assessment. This presentation will discuss change in libraries and what is needed to create an effective and exciting change environment for both library users and staff. I will use examples from an American university library, the Paul V. Galvin Library at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, USA. The presentation will address staff roles and organization, planning in a changing environment, and implementing and marketing innovative services. We will also address how continuous assessment helps define our path. It will be presented in English.
