Marketing strategy for the development of public libraries in the transition countries. Necessity of organization a marketing department

  • Preservation and presentation of cultural and historical heritage, as well as encouraging contemporary artistic creation is one of the main objectives of the development strategies of each cultural institution in the world. Library as part of network of cultural institutions in which cultural heritage is kept in line with the directions of future cultural processes, adopts the obligation to protect the written word which is an integral part of the cultural heritage in the state. Modern lifestyle influenced by faster technological development, primarily informational, lead the large number of institutions, not only cultural, to raise the question about the future - What the future brings? - And the answer to that question - becouse is difficult to determine the future for libraries. Perhaps in countries with a long democratic tradition this process has long been in the normal way, but in transition countries, such as Macedonia, is still searching for his track. Libraries in Macedonia lag behind in the process of modernization of library operations mainly due to lack of staff, training, conferences, funding, computer tehnology. This paper processes the problem of transforming macedonian libraries from place only for books and reading in research and information centers The rapid pace of living with less free time puts people in a situation to require the speed and ease in working. These new needs of the digital age are "the challenge for libraries". Are we ready for what´s coming? Can you be READY for constant variable nature of technology and the changing needs of users?(Session: Blick über den Tellerrand - Internationale Projekte; Raum: Riga; 28.
