TY - GEN A1 - Rokicka, Renata A1 - Rokicka, Renata T1 - Book Collections in the Study of the History of Scientific Societies on the Example of the Polish Philosophical Society T2 - Themenkreis 6: Kulturgut und Kulturdaten erhalten und aktivieren/ Provenienzforschung in Bibliotheken (26.06.2025, 11:00 - 12:30, Lloyd Saal) N2 - The Polish Philosophical Society (PTF) is one of the most important organizations of philosophical life in the country, combining the traditions of several organizations. Its beginning is marked by February 12, 1904, when the inaugural meeting of the Society was held at the Jan Kazimierz University in Lviv. The situation in the philosophical movement changed after World War II, when the PTF in Lviv and the Vilnius Philosophical Society could not resume their activities, and three more organizations were established: the Philosophical and Psychological Society in Lublin (1945), the Toruń Philosophical Society (1946) and the Wrocław Philosophical Society (1947). The first official post-war nationwide meeting of the philosophers' community took place in 1948 in Warsaw, when all existing societies were merged into one PTF. The complicated history of the PTF is reflected in its book collection kept in the Joint Libraries of the Faculties of Philosophy and Sociology of the University of Warsaw, the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Polish Philosophical Society. The aim of the speech is to present the project of the planned doctoral dissertation devoted to the history and reconstruction of the book collection of the Polish Philosophical Society. Its primary goal is to fill the research gap in the history of the book collections of Polish scientific societies in the 20th century. Thanks to research using provenance, archival and bibliographic methods, using available catalogues, inventories and archival materials, in my doctoral thesis I intend to recreate the history of the PTF book collection, as well as the PTF itself, which has undergone various transformations over the years, which is reflected in the analyzed materials. In my presentation, I will show selected provenance marks from the PTF book collection, analyse them and attempt to reconstruct the route of selected items from the book collection based on these marks.
