OG (Streaming)) N2 - Discover the transformative potential of new university presses in reshaping scholarly communication through the example of the University of Groningen Press (UGP) in the Netherlands. UGP is a new university press - an open access, digital-first, and library-based publishing service that grew out of dissatisfaction with traditional publishing models. Our session focuses on UGP's open textbook publishing pilot, an initiative informed by lessons from open access journal and monograph publishing services. This dynamic approach positions UGP as a comprehensive diamond open access publisher, embracing various university domains (education, research, public engagement), fostering cross-disciplinary collaborations, and facilitating knowledge exchange within open science. The UGP’s open textbook pilot showcases the university press as a hub for connecting open science's diverse elements, facilitating seamless knowledge transfer, and strengthening engagement with the broader "open" agenda. Our goal is to demonstrate that new university presses play a visible role in enhancing synergy across various open science domains. As a diamond open access publisher, UGP provides a platform for faculty and researchers to publish journals, books and series, inaugural lectures, and open textbooks, breaking down barriers to accessibility. Prioritizing scientific relevance over commercial considerations, UGP empowers scholars to contribute high-quality open publications, both faculty- and student-led, fostering wider research dissemination and equitable access to education. This session invites participants to explore the role of new university presses in the broader open science framework, serving as catalysts for connecting its multifaceted components. Through the open textbook publishing case study, we aim to initiate further conversation, generating ideas and collaborative solutions to address challenges in reshaping the future of academic publishing and open knowledge dissemination.
