To continue as relevant information institutions, libraries must enthusiastically embrace technologies like Twitter that have shown success in improving influence and user engagement (Cha, Haddadi, Benevenuto \& Gummadi, 2010). Users of tools like Twitter self- identify as stakeholders in the organizations they "follow" by providing informal publicity (Jansen, Zhang, Sobel \& Chowdury, 2009), by more actively participating as a member of the organization, (Junco, Heiberger \& Loken, 2011) and by enhancing the social presence of an organization outside of its four walls (Dunlap \& Lowenthal, 2009). Some academic and public library systems have invested in social media librarians to make effective use of tools like Twitter, but the addition of a staff member in this role is not an economic reality for many libraries. This talk discusses new research examining the Twitter feeds of university libraries in Ontario. The success of each Twitter feed is determined by comparing the number of Twitter followers with the size of community the library serves. 365 days worth of tweets for each library are analyzed to highlight the differences between successful and unsuccessful Tweeters. The talk discusses how successful feeds form their content; the subjects of their tweets, the frequency, and the way they utilize the functions of Twitter; such as hashtags and tiny urls. The strategies identified in the successful feeds have application in libraries of all sizes and allow librarians to participate in social media without expertise in social media conventions. This talk encourages librarians to capture each other's knowledge and celebrate each other's successes so that they may better connect users with library resources and services.}, language = {en} } @misc{Homilius2017, author = {Homilius, Sabine}, title = {Frankfurt am Main - Big Libraries in the City}, series = {{\"O}ffentliche Arbeitssitzung / International Librarians´ Orientation: Der Bibliothekartag begr{\"u}ßt seine internationalen Teilnehmer (30.05.2017, 16:00 - 17:30 Uhr, Raum Conclusio 2)}, journal = {{\"O}ffentliche Arbeitssitzung / International Librarians´ Orientation: Der Bibliothekartag begr{\"u}ßt seine internationalen Teilnehmer (30.05.2017, 16:00 - 17:30 Uhr, Raum Conclusio 2)}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:0290-opus4-32334}, year = {2017}, abstract = {5 slides}, language = {en} } @misc{Lee2012, author = {Lee, Sook-Hyeun}, title = {Korean Strategy for Library Development und Reading Promotion for Children and Young Adults}, organization = {Lee, Sook-Hyeun}, url = {http://nbn-resolving.de/urn:nbn:de:0290-opus-12549}, year = {2012}, abstract = {Kinder- und Jugendbibliotheksarbeit in S{\"u}dkorea Nationale Kinder- und Jugendbibliothek Koreas, Seoul, Korea, Republic of Korea trat zwar 2006 durch die Ausrichtung der IFLA-Konferenz in das Blickfeld der internationalen Bibliothekswelt, allerdings ist in Deutschland seither nicht sehr viel {\"u}ber die weitere Entwicklung der koreanischen Fachszene bekannt. The Vision Tour consisted of visits to 35 outstanding school libraries throughout the United States this school year. What are the will the unique characteristics of these programs in the areas of facilities, programs, teaching, personnel, and geographic location? What can we learn from them to improve school libraries internationally? Dr. Melissa Johnston of the University of Kentucky, will present the changing roles of the school librarian in the United States. In order to respond to the changing education climate, The American Association of School Librarians conducted a survey of the membership to identify the responsibilities of the school librarian in the 21st century. Five roles of the school librarian emerged as: leader, instructional partner, information specialist, teacher, and program administrator. This presentation will provide a brief overview of these roles with examples of implementation.}, subject = {Schulbibliotheken}, language = {en} }
