The Japan Consortium for the Open Access Repository (JPCOAR) and the Academic eXchange for Information Environment and Strategy (AXIES) conducted online surveys on the status of research data management efforts among universities and research institutions in Japan in 2020, 2022, and 2024. Comparing the results of the 2020 survey (352 valid responses) and the 2022 survey (309 valid responses), which have already been tabulated, the number of institutions that have formulated or are considering data policies increased from 23.6\% to 35.9\%, and the number of institutions that have established or are considering RDM systems increased from 23.0\% to 32.0\%. Furthermore, the number of institutions considering or implementing the release of research data in institutional repositories increased from 35.7\% to 62.4\%. Japanese university libraries play a certain role in all of these activities, but their contributions vary widely. Furthermore, in reality, only 26.9\% of the institutions have examples of data release through institutional repositories, and the main issue is the lack of human resources to implement data curation. At the time of the presentation, we will add survey data for 2024 and discuss the contribution and role of Japanese university libraries in research data management.}, language = {en} }
