This presentation explores the intersection of media competence and information literacy, proposing a novel pedagogical approach that integrates these critical skills to empower learners. Media competence involves not only understanding and interpreting digital content but also producing and evaluating it responsibly. Combined with information literacy—the ability to locate, evaluate, and use information effectively—these skills form a foundation for navigating today's complex information landscape. By addressing the overlaps and synergies between these domains, libraries can foster a more holistic approach to user education. This session includes a real-world case study led by the author, inspired by professional visits to public libraries and academic libraries in Germany. These experiences provided valuable insights into advanced pedagogical methods and the systemic support for library services in developed countries. Contrasting these observations with practices in developing countries, the author designed a project aimed at equipping young people with essential media and information literacy skills. The initiative incorporated workshops on digital storytelling, collaborative research tools, and critical evaluation of media sources, offering participants hands-on learning experiences. This project demonstrated enhancing digital literacy and critical thinking among youth, empowering them to navigate digital spaces more effectively and responsibly. Drawing on these cross-cultural insights, the presentation highlights how libraries in developing countries can adapt and implement best practices to bridge educational gaps. By integrating media competence with information literacy, libraries can not only enhance user engagement but also contribute to a more informed, digitally literate society.}, language = {en} }
