Die Nachfrage nach zerstörungsfreien Prüfungen an Bäumen steigt stetig. Dank neuer Methoden und Messgeräte, entwickelten sich die Möglichkeiten zur Baumdiagnostik in den letzten Jahren immer weiter. Seit kurzem werden auch tomographische elektrische Widerstandsverfahren eingesetzt. Das Ziel dieser Arbeit war es, die Anwendungsmöglichkeiten und Grenzen der Messung des komplexen elektrischen Widerstands an stehenden Bäumen aufzuzeigen und weiterzuentwickeln. Die zusätzliche Erfassung der Phasenverschiebung bietet dabei neue Möglichkeiten zur Detektion von Materialarten und -zustand. Nach vorbereitenden, systematischen Untersuchungen an einem künstlichen, zylindrischen Probekörper wurden spektrale Labormessungen durchgeführt. An Eichenholzproben wurde gezeigt, dass sich die Anisotropie des Holzes stark auf die elektrischen Messungen auswirkt, ebenso wie die Holzfeuchte. Auch Pilzbefall, der in zwei Langzeitversuchen an Eichenkernholz untersucht wurde, zeigte gravierende Auswirkungen auf das elektrische Verhalten, insbesondere auf die Phasenverschiebung. Dadurch war es im Labor möglich, Pilzbefall durch Messungen des komplexen elektrischen Widerstands an Holz nachzuweisen. Bei der tomographischen Anwendung des Verfahrens an stehenden Eichen konnte zunächst gezeigt werden, wie sich der Aufbau gesunder Eichen in den Tomogrammen des spezifischen Widerstands und der Phasenverschiebung widerspiegelt. Dabei wurde eine Abhängigkeit von der Messfrequenz, der Jahreszeit und des Baumalters festgestellt. Bei den anschliessenden Messungen an pilzbefallenen Eichen konnte dann nachgewiesen werden, dass die Detektion von Fäuleschäden an Bäumen mit dem komplexen elektrischen Widerstandsverfahren möglich ist. Allerdings ist die zusätzliche Information der Phasenverschiebung nur bei sehr niedrigen Frequenzen < 1 Hz nutzbar, da dort die im Labor nachgewiesenen Phasenkontraste am größten sind. Die Messungen bei niedrigen Frequenzen haben jedoch eine Erhöhung der Messdauer zur Folge. Das Nutzen-Zeit-Verhältnis für diese zusätzliche spektrale Erfassung der Phase ist gegenüber dem spezifischen Widerstand derzeit jedoch noch gering. Um das Verfahren als alleinstehende Untersuchungsmethode zur Baumdiagnostik zu nutzen, sind weitgehende Untersuchungen für andere Baumarten nötig. In Kombination mit weiteren Verfahren, wie die in dieser Arbeit ebenfalls genutzten Schalltomographie, kann es jedoch bereits jetzt sinnvoll eingesetzt werden.
