The 7th International Conference on Spectroscopic Ellipsometry (ICSE-7) was held in Berlin in June 2016, jointly organised by ICSE and BAM. The publication of the proceedings special issue in Applied Surface Science follows this event. In the special issue, about 100 articles on current topics of optics and surface science related to ellipsometry, polarimetry, and similar techniques are presented, underpinning the high significance of these techniques for many fields of materials science.
This third symposium focuses on applicable cement and concrete technology for sub-Saharan Africa – international cooperation, innovation, research and capacity building. The rise of sub-Saharan Africa’s economies is significant to development. However, such development should be sustainable in order to increase the economic stability of Africa. In terms of sustainability, applicable concrete technology with relevance to the market needs is suitable to build up the infrastructure of a society. In the current sub-Saharan African market, there exists an enormous potential in sustainable research for innovative construction. Education is of key importance to innovation alongside a sound interaction with key players in the construction sector. The symposium includes keynote lectures from 10 international keynote speakers and technical papers from 25 young scientists, who were selected out of a high number of applicants based on the excellence of their scientific writing. The presentations of all participants as well as keynote lectures are represented in these proceedings.
Knowing the state of the setting process of concrete in buildings or the moisture level of old
walls can be crucial in determining further steps in the construction or restoration process. Small
2.4 GHz modules can be either embedded or applied on the surface to determine the moisture
distribution in material. Common modules, that are based on the highly available Bluetooth
Low Energy standard, emit electromagnetic waves, whose signal strength gets dampened by
water molecules. This effect serves as the basis on determining the moisture level in material.
We will show how to apply this method in a meshed sensor network for online monitoring.
Proceedings of 4th European Conference on Process Analytics and Control Technology (EuroPACT 2017)
(2017)
EuroPACT 2017 is the fourth European Conference on Process Analytics and Control Technology.
The conference covered new technologies in process analytics, the implementation of these technologies in various fields and the transformation of data into knowledge. The conference was supported by an exhibition of instrumentation, applications and data evaluation tools.
EUROPACT 2017 provided a meeting and a discussion forum for scientists and users of process analytics from academia and industry. The conference programme includes plenary lectures and discussion during poster sessions.
The conference took place 10-12 May 2017 in Potsdam (nearby Berlin), Germany.
