EN 16516 sets the test method and requirements for the determination of emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) from building materials into indoor air. To address the quality control requirements for the class of semi-VOCs (SVOCs), VSL developed gaseous reference materials. A novel home-made dynamic gas mixture preparation system, operating according to ISO 6145-4 (continuous injection method), has recently been developed and validated. Thanks to the stable temperature control up to 100 oC, the system can prevent condensation of the SVOCs in air at indoor air concentration levels. The in-situ obtained SVOC gas standards can be sampled in sorbent tubes to obtain SVOC transfer standards. A study was performed to determine the optimal sorbent material and storage conditions. This study will be presented together with the results of the 2018 Round Robin test for emission test chamber measurements organised by BAM. Using the novel system, VSL prepared transfer standards with known amounts of VOCs and SVOCs for participants to evaluate their analytical performance.
The analysis of non-metals normally is carried out using elemental analysers which require reference material for calibration. In the lecture the CRM-program of BAM suitable for non-metal-analysis is presented. There are CRMs available with non-metal contents in the low ppm up to the high percent region.
The analysis of Zinc layers on Iron sheets is one of the most essential application of Glow Discharge - Optical Emission Spectrometry (GD-OES). Since the year 2000 for this application calibration of GD-OES instruments mostly included the set of the six calibration samples CZ 2009-CZ 2014 from CKD. These CRMs are no longer available. Furthermore, in this application the analysis of Al and Mg became essential. To overcome this lack of calibration materials, the working group VDEh FA II.47 decided to organize the production and characterization of a new set of certified reference materials.

Reliable analysis of chemical indicators in water, sediment and soil samples for the purpose of environmental pollution assessment poses one of the greatest analytical challenges, having in mind the complexity of sample matrix and low concentrations of pollutants. Organics (pesticides, PAHs, PFOS, etc.) and heavy metals (Hg, Cd, Ni, Pb and As) represent target parameters. Laboratories performing sampling and tests in this field regulated by respective EU directives, need strong support in order to establish a quality system. It is necessary to provide appropriate calibrators i.e. matrix CRMs relates to the unique sample matrices representing typical samples in the geomorphological and anthropological sense. In addition to that, bearing in mind the complexity and instability of environmental samples, it is very difficult to obtain appropriate referents materials with no local providers.
Our project is aiming to develop capacity to produce CRMs for environmental analysis by transferring the theoretical and practical know-how between the partners and combining their skills to focus on environmental CRM production in accordance with ISO Guide 34. Our project will have an impact on environmental monitoring in the partnering countries and on the scientific community, who will use the newly developed reference materials. Furthermore, partners will develop strategies for producing new CRMs either on their own or in cooperation. This will lead to regional CRM producers serving scientific and official laboratories.
