Aufbaukörnungen - Heterogener Bauschutt als Rohstoff für die Herstellung von Leichtgranulaten
(2011)
-----------------------------------------------------
At present heterogeneous and fine-grained masonry rubble is recycled at a very low level. To overcome this situation the material is used as feedstock for the generation of lightweight aggregates, produced by a thermal process similar to the manufacturing of expanded clays and shales. On the basis of a literature review the suitability of masonry rubble as raw material is evaluated generally. Then materials from different recycling plants were experimentally tested. The results show, that expanded granules with defined, adjustable properties can be produced from masonry rubble. The properties of these secondary lightweight aggregates are at least equivalent to the properties of the known expanded clay aggregates.
Liquid adsorption chromatography at critical conditions (LACCC) in normal and in reversed-phase modes provides independent information on the molar mass distributions of both blocks of poly(methyl methacrylate)-block-poly(tert-butyl methacrylate), even if no information about the precursor is available. In addition, the amount of unreacted precursor can be determined, even if its molar mass is comparable to that of the total block copolymer. The reversal of elution order by changing of stationary and mobile phases makes it possible to independently characterize each block in the SEC mode of the LACCC system. Thus, complete structural information is obtained even without using two-dimensional chromatographic techniques.
Controlling thickness and tightness of surface passivation shells is crucial for many applications of core–shell nanoparticles (NP). Usually, to determine shell thickness, core and core/shell particle are measured individually requiring the availability of both nanoobjects. This is often not fulfilled for functional nanomaterials such as many photoluminescent semiconductor quantum dots (QD) used for bioimaging, solid state lighting, and display technologies as the core does not show the applicationrelevant functionality like a high photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield, calling for a whole nanoobject approach. By combining high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), a novel whole nanoobject approach is developed representatively for an ultrabright oleic acid-stabilized, thick shell CdSe/CdS QD with a PL quantum yield close to unity. The size of this spectroscopically assessed QD, is in the range of the information depth of usual laboratory XPS. Information on particle size and monodispersity were validated with dynamic light scattering (DLS) and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and compared to data derived from optical measurements. In addition to demonstrating the potential of this novel whole nanoobject approach for determining architectures of small nanoparticles, the presented results also highlight challenges faced by different sizing and structural analysis methods and method-inherent uncertainties.
An overview about quantity of construction and demolition waste (CDW) and a state of the art of the reuse is given. The technology is described, which is applied for the processing of CDW in a stationary plant. The requirements on recycled aggregates, which shall be used in road construction or in manufacturing of concrete, can be divided in such related to the material and physical properties and such related to the environmental properties. The rules give guidance on the composition with the aim of excluding the constituents with unfavourable features. The environmental standards which yet in discussion are give threshold of the leachable components in recycled aggregates. The material potential of building waste is discussed. Information on the chemical composition of recycled materials is compared with the composition of pure materials. With the aid of ternary charts such building materials are identified, in which the recycled materials can be used as recycled feedstock.
Production of lightweight aggregate from masonry rubble. At present, heterogeneous and fine-grained masonry rubble can only be recycled at very low quality. To overcome this limitation, the material was employed as feedstock for the production of lightweight aggregates in a thermal process similar to that used in the manufacture of expanded clay and expanded slate. To that end, the fundamental suitability of masonry rubble as a raw material was evaluated. Experiments were carried out which indicated that lightweight granules with defined, modifiable proper-ties on a par with to those of natural-material- based aggregates could be manufactured from masonry rubble. Structural lightweight concretes produced with these secondary aggregates achieved comparable performance to lightweight concretes produced with conventional expanded clay. Lightweight recycled building material aggregates represent a product that hardly requires any primary resources in its manufacture. In principle, the technique also seems to be well suited for high-quality recycling of other mineral waste materials.
