The ground vibrations, which are generated by trains on different slab tracks, have been calculated by finite-element boundary-element models. The slab track is modelled in detail by the finite element method.
The infinite soil is modelled by the boundary element method as a homogeneous half-space. The track-soil system is coupled with a simple rigid mass model of the vehicle so that the vehicle-track interaction is completely included. Transfer functions are calculated in frequency domain without and with vehicle-track interaction, the compliance of the track and the mobilities of the soil at different distances from the track.
Finally, the ratios between the ground vibration amplitudes with and without mitigation measure are calculated to quantify the effectiveness of the mitigation measure.
Tracks with under sleeper pads have been investigated in a parameter study. The main parameter that influences the reduction of ground vibration is the stiffness of the under sleeper pad. The softest sleeper pad yields the best reduction of the ground vibration.
The influence of other parameters has been examined. The stiffness of the rail pads, the stiffness of the slab material, the stiffness of the sleeper material, and the distance of the sleepers. All these parameters show no or only a minor influence on the mitigation effect.
As the standard isolated track, a track with an under sleeper pad of a stiffness of kS = 5 107 N/m has been chosen, which can also be expressed as a stiffness per area of kS ’’ = 3.7 107 N/m3 = 0.037 N/mm3.
The resonance frequency for this pad stiffness is observed between 32 and 40 Hz. The reduction of the ground vibration is about vi,I /vi,U = 0.1 at 100 Hz.
Für die vom Bundesumweltministerium vorgesehene Mantelverordnung sind validierte Unter-suchungsmethoden erforderlich. Dazu gehört auch die Herstellung von wässrigen Eluaten, z.B. zur Beurteilung der Mobilität von Schadstoffen und der Ableitung von Grenzwerten.
Ziel des Vorhabens war es, auf der Grundlage geeigneter Testmaterialien (mit prioritären organischen Schadstoffen kontaminierte Böden und Bodenmaterialien) Ringversuche zur Validierung des Schüttelverfahrens nach E DIN 19527 und des Säulenverfahrens für die Übereinstimmungs-untersuchung nach DIN 19528 durchzuführen. Auf der Grundlage der Untersuchungsergebnisse sollten beide Normen bezüglich der Vorgehensweise präzisiert werden und es sollten die während des Ringversuchs ermittelten Verfahrenskenndatenn zur Validierung der Normen herangezogen werden. Darüber hinaus sollten Säulen- und Schüttelverfahren als Übereinstimmungstest vergleichend bewertet werden.
Es wurden vier geeignete Ringversuchsmaterialien hergestellt und an insgesamt 18 Ringversuchsteilnehmer ausgegeben. Die Auswertung der Ringversuche erfolgte auf der Grundlage klassischer Statistik nach DIN ISO 5725 mit Hilfe der AuswertesoftwareProLab 2011 (quo data).
Auf der Grundlage der Validierungsringversuche wurden die Verfahrenskenndaten für die Norm DIN 19527 ermittelt. Die statistische Auswertung der eingereichten Datensätze war aufgrund der großen Streubreite der Daten schwierig. Die vorgeschriebenen statistischen Methoden zur Datenauswertung adressieren die Behandlung nicht gleichverteilter Datensätze nur ungenügend. Das muss bei der Bewertung der Ergebnisse und deren Zuverlässigkeit berücksichtigt werden.
Generell kann festgestellt werden, dass keine signifikanten Unterschiede zwischen den Ergebnissen der Schüttel- und Säulenelution beobachtet werden. Dabei werden beim Schüttelverfahren tendenziell etwas geringere Gesamtmittelwerte erzielt als beim Säulenverfahren, die berechneten Vergleichsvariationskoeffizienten sind für das Schüttelverfahren meist etwas niedriger. Dennoch erweisen sich beide Elutionsverfahren bei den eingesetzten Ringversuchsmaterialien als gut vergleichbar.
Downsizing (power-to-weight ratio) and higher speeds lead to a rise in Hertzian contact pressures in combination with an increase in surface or oil temperatures. Under such conditions, commonly used bearing steels, such as 100Cr6, reach their limits, creating a demand for alternative slip-rolling resistant steel alloys. The present work therefore compares the slip-rolling performance of various steel types with Maraging- and PM-type steel alloys such as e.g. CSS-42L™, ASP2012, BIMAX42+, in the Hertzian contact pressure range up to P0max of 4 GPa. Through-hardened 100Cr6H (AISI 52100), case-hardened 20MnCr5 (AISI 5120H) and nitrogen alloyed Croni-dur30 (AMS 5898) still compete in terms of slip-rolling and wear resistance and load carrying capacity, whereas Maraging- and PM-type steel alloys offer superior strength and toughness properties.
Für eine detaillierte Analyse der Gefüge- und Porenstruktur weitgestufter Erdstoffe ist es notwendig, diese dreidimensional (3D) zu visualisieren und ihre Kenngrößen zu ermitteln. Dazu wurde an der BAM eine Präparationsmethode entwickelt, die es ermöglicht die Porenstruktur von Probenkörpern aus suffosiven Erdstoffen und definierten Korngrößenverteilungen über CT-Aufnahmen abzubilden. Über eine eigens dafür, in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Zuse-Institut Berlin (ZIB), entwickelte Bildanalysemethode wurden die Strukturdaten visualisiert. Aus dem Bilddatensatz konnte bereits in der Rückwärtsrechnung eine Kornverteilungslinie zur Validierung generiert und mit experimentell ermittelten Sieblinien verglichen werden. Des Weiteren wurden in Säulenexperimenten Kornumlagerungsprozesse unter der Verwendung von CT-Aufnahmen beobachtet.
Als eine weitere Möglichkeit zur Beschreibung von Gefüge- und Porenstrukturen wurden Kugelpackungen modelliert und deren Strukturdaten ermittelt. Mit einem an der HTWK entwickelten stochastisch-heuristischen Algorithmus lassen sich wirklichkeitsnahe 3D-Gefügemodelle aus kugelförmigen Feststoffpartikeln generieren. Die Kornverteilung ist dabei wählbar. Für die erstellten Gefügemodelle kann der vollständige Porengraph einschließlich der Porengrößen und Engstellen ermittelt und ausgelesen werden.
Ein an der BAM entwickelter und durch die BUW erweiterter Säulenversuch unter Verwendung systematisch veränderter Korngemische von natürlichen Gesteinskörnungen und Glaskugeln ergab weitere Aufschlüsse über die strukturbildenden Fraktionen des Korngerüstes.
Die Perkolationstheorie ist eine moderne wahrscheinlichkeitstheoretische Methode, um Fluss- und Transportvorgänge innerhalb poröser Medien zu simulieren. Über Porennetzwerkmodelle werden die komplexen Fließwege in der Porenstruktur vereinfacht abgebildet. An der BUW wurde ein 3D-Bond-Perkolationsmodell auf einem simplen kubischen Gitter realisiert, in dem die Gitterknoten die Poren und die Gitterstäbe die Porenengstellen repräsentieren. Lokale und globale Strukturveränderungen infolge Partikeltransports werden über die Analyse von Porenräumen beschrieben. Mit diesem Perkolationsmodell können Aussagen zur lokalen und globalen Strukturveränderung durch Partikeltransport in definierten Bodenvolumen abgeleitet werden. Die hergeleiteten Zusammenhänge zu den suffosiven Materialtransportbedingungen mit der Perkolationstheorie sind für homogene, isotrope und selbstähnliche Erdstoffgefüge gültig.
Beschichtungen, Klebverbindungen und Kompositwerkstoffe sind auf ihre Haftfestigkeit, Fügefestigkeit oder Verbundfestigkeit zu prüfen. Bisher wurden diese Prüfungen als aufwändige Einzeltests mit der Zugprüfmaschine durchgeführt. Mit einer neuartigen Zentrifuge geht dies nun viel einfacher. Nun wird die Fliehkraft zur Prüfung der Verbundfestigkeit eingesetzt. Forscher an der BAM haben das Prüfprinzip entwickelt. Für die Umsetzung der neuartigen Technologie im Bereich Materialprüfung, insbesondere der innovativen Hard- und Softwarelösungen, wurde die LUM GmbH mit dem Innovationspreis Berlin-Brandenburg 2012 ausgezeichnet.

Coatings, adhesive-bonded joints and composites have to be tested for their adhesive, bonding and tensile strength. Until now, these tests have been time-consuming single-sample tests in a tensile testing machine. By means of centrifuge technology, tests are much easier now as centrifugal force serves as testing force. Scientists at BAM have developed the test principle, the implementation of this new technology in a testing device was realized by LUM GmbH. In recognition of innovative hard and software solutions, the Berlin-Brandenburg Innovation Award 2012 was given to LUM GmbH.
Nebulizing of polymer solutions, in a high-voltage field under atmospheric conditions by electrospray ionization (ESI), is a comfortable way to deposit ultra-thin layers of polar or ionic polymers onto any conductive substrate materials. The substrate is grounded and the polymer solution is sprayed through a powered capillary. The formed charged droplets shrink by solvent evaporation during their way to the grounded substrate, the charges close ranks and the droplets collapse consecutively by charge repulsion, thus forming finally charged single macromolecules. After their discharging at the grounded substrate, an ultrathin ‘quasi-monomolecular’ polymer layer is formed. It could be shown by imaging of scratches through the polymer layer by atomic force microscopy that the deposited polymer layers are dense at a thickness of about 10 nm. Carbon fibre bundles were coated with poly (allylamine) (PAAm) or poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) as potential adhesion-promoting layers in fibre–polymer composites. The polymer deposition is self-inhibiting after formation of a continuous coverage of about 200 nm for PAAm and 30 nm for PAA as result of surface charging. Continuous deposition onto such isolating layers or polymers without charging can be achieved by using current of alternating polarity. The film formation is self-healing because of the electrophoretic effect, i.e. the ion discharging occurs preferentially at noncoated areas. This electrophoretic effect of ESI was demonstrated by completely enwrapping all the carbon fibres of the roving within a distance of about 100 μm far from its outside and also at the backside of the fibre bundle with about 80% of the topside coverage, as measured by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and visualized using scanning electron microscopy.
Globally, cement and concrete experts are at the cutting-edge to sustainable, green, healthy but nonetheless high-performance concrete. Today concrete is not yet well established in Africa, which offers the unique opportunity to build up a cement and concrete market based on the highest available state of technology. As this industry needs high level expertise, a central issue in implementation of skilled technology is crosslinking research institutions and laboratories. It should not be neglected that concrete is a product with low transport ranges. This means that an improved concrete market mainly supports the local economy without exceeding financial drains to the international market. Thus it fosters the fight against poverty, which is an urgent need in most African countries. The project aims to cross-link experts with industry and policy making bodies, aiming to establish sustainable cement and concrete construction in Africa.
A facile and versatile synthetic route for controlling the size and surface potential of organic–inorganic hybrid silica nanoparticles (NPs) is introduced in this paper. For polymer-grafted NPs, the density of polymer chains on the surface is strongly affected by the concentration of precursor. Nevertheless, for condensed NPs, the precursor concentration determines the particle size but not the density of polymer chains on the surface or the adsorption of bovine serum albumin (BSA). Results presented here may have Major implications in biomedical and colloidal chemistry since interfacial and colloidal properties are known to drive several processes associated with nanoparticles in biological media.
